I put the 73mm calipers up front on my 89 LX. The rest of the brake system is stock. I don't have rear discs. I have drums on the back still and plan on keeping it that way.

The brakes feel a little spongy and they lock up real easily now. I have read those mustang brake upgrade websites but it isn't clear what master cylinder should be used when going with the 73 mm front calipers with rear drum brakes.

If anyone has done the 73 mm upgrade, did you have to do anything else to the brake system? Thanks.

Do a Search on the Corral about the 73mm Caliper "Downgrade" for alot of eye opening information.

Stopping distance goes up with just the addition of those front calipers, it is not recommended at all unless you do something with the rear!!!

I would assume that yes you do.. anytime you go from a smaller area to a bigger area you need more fluid and pressure to help you brake.. you upgraded the piston size so you probally need a bigger master.. I don't have the 73's in the front yet but I do have the rear disc conversion from a t-bird and I have the 93 cobra master cylinder... im hoping to get 73's soon though..

i think you need the master cylinder for like a 93 cobra.......

maximum motorsports has some info on this as well
www.maximummotorsports.com

i think when i go to do mine i'm just going to go with the braided lines and the caliper bushings and see if that makes a diff.......

Maximum Motorsports is a great place to read too as they will tell you not to use those calipers without doing anything out back!
