I read an article about porting heads and intake on your own. Anybody know of any good books to read about doing this? Has anybody done it themselves? If so would a novice machanic guy be able to do it. Seems like as long as you have a good plan and don’t work too fast you should be okay. Would like to hear from anybody who has done it before.

Thanks guys!!!

Not a bad plan, I would not try to completely work a port your first time out. But there are many improvements that can be done from minor work to only the bowl area and valve guide. A couple of the books I have seen that had some decent info is How to build horsepower, either 1 or 2 (only 1 deals with porting, but can't remember) there is decent knowledge on the web and countless magazine articles, that is where I would begin, Good luck.

I read through those webpages, very helpfull, Who needs those expensive experts anyway :) j/k. Sounds like I can at least do some basic stuff that will help out.

Thanks again!

I used a dremel on the iron heads on my Dodge. I smoothed out the ports and got rid of those casting blemeshes. Sanded it down to get it all smooth without ripping a layer out. I'm bout to put the heads back on, I guess I'll find out how it goes in a few weeks.... :D
