Do phenolic intake manifold spacers work? What do they do?

I like the look under the hood with no egr, and it's just easier to work on the car with out all that crap in the way.

Do what I did, convert to the Fox setup! I've got the cleaner look of the Fox EGR with all of the benefit of EGR
