Do stock 289 Oil pans have any baffles?

OK. So if i get a stock sized pan (Milodon) with a few horizontal baffles, it should be better than the uncontrolled slosh in the stocker. i really want to solve the ticking issue at the end of a hard autocross lap.

You might look at the milodon with the kicked out sides... stock depth, but it holds a few more qt's of oil.

It be cheaper to get a boss 302 windage tray off ebay usually around 30.00-35.00 dollars and is good for 5-10 horsepower increase.
Ford claims alot more like 20-25 h.p but I doubt it. Bolts right up to a 289 and works with the stock oil pan.

Windage tray doesnt control slosh, it keeps oil from splashing onto or being whipped up by the crank. You replace the main cap bolts with studs and it mounts to those.

Thats partially correct, it also helps keep the oil in the sump.

"A windage tray keeps the windage around the crank from the oil in the sump area. It should allow the oil coming off the crank to easily enter the sump without the windage affecting the oil already in the sump. A good windage tray should also keep the oil in the sump from getting into the rotating assembly when the action of the vehicle is in motion."

Also if you use the Boss 302 windage tray it will not work with the Canton girdle

"Ford windage trays
Ford uses a front mounted oil pump which requires a long pickup tube to reach the rear sump. In most applications routing the pickup to the best location in the sump makes it difficult to build a good pan mounted windage tray because the pickup would have to pass through the tray and therefor leaves a large opening. Mounting the tray on the main caps allows the pickup to pass under the tray resulting in a more complete separation of the rotating assembly and the oil. This results in a much better setup."

That describe's the Boss302 windage try exactly.

Quote's are from From Cantons web page

The Boss 302 windage tray will even work with the original 289 cobra oil pans.
They will not work with Branda's repops, as they were not true copy's. Its possible Branda has improved them by now.

"Is the removal of the main cap bolts to put in studs for the windage tray risk free for a novice mechanic?"

Yes very easy to do, just re-torque the bolts to specs for your engine-almost fool proof.

"Yeah, but he was talking about autocrossing and the hard cornering moving the oil away from the pickup. Need pan baffles for that."
Are you running a stock oil pump or a high volumn?"

Dark knight is correct on the autocross, you would be better off with the pan baffles.
