Do these dyno numbers sound right?

I took my car to blood enterprises in aburn wa. to get a chip burnt and a dyno tune. They had the car for two weeks. These numbers seem low to me. 240rwhp@5250 and 264rwtq@4250. They did the pulls in third gear. I have stock gears. The guy told me to add 10% because its a mustang dyno. The chip and tune did give me 17rwhp and 22rwtq though. The AFR started at 12.25 and than went to 12.75 and than stayed at 12.50

to me they sound a little low since your numbers on that dyno are about equal to mine on a superflow dyno (i think) which was also pupose to read a little bit low. and i dont have heads or a cam. numbers in sig for a dyno jet when i wasnt tuned very well. ran 14.2 best with those numbers i retuned the car this year and have run 13.8 but have not been to a dyno to see numbers

I've had my Mach dynoed there twice and he tuned it in with the Predator with the few mods I have. I did'nt doubt my results at all. Yours do seem low for the amount of performance mods you have.

On that dyno, I would expect more like 260 rwhp and 285 rwtq. I know your combo is capable of putting that down on a mustang dyno. Now is the time to check the little stuff (plugs, wires, fuel, etc.) to make sure it is all stellar. I had incorrect plugs in my GT-40P's when I went to the dyno. After changing those and my valve springs, I gained noticeable power. I need to hit the dyno again to see how much!

How much mileage is on the engine? Have your run a compression test? All the accessories in the world wont help if the bottom end is tired. As loud95 said, check everything. Plugs, wires, timing, fuel, valve lash, all that stuff. It adds up pretty quick.

yep. what they said. my motor only has 180 on it your i hope should have less i don t know the condition of my motor before i bought my car im guessing you are the same way but regular mantence has been a regular now that its mine all the little stuff that can add up if not up i have changed to new or atfermarket parts to get on par with those new performance parts now i need more fuel from the tank and injectors

I don't know anything about this place or your car, but I will pose a couple thoughts...

*Why did it take two weeks for a dyno tune and burning a chip? It could be easily done in an hour or two unless you have some crazy combination. This is assuming an SCT type chip done on-site, not mail-order.

*Why dyno the car in 3rd gear? Traditionally 5-speeds are done in 4th gear (1:1). BTW, 4th gear will show more power IME. This is on a DynoJet -- I have never used a Mustang dyno.

*I wouldn't "add" hp or even recommend thinking that way -- what it runs is what it runs. That's like when people correct track times for sea level, etc. -- sure someone somewhere came up with a formula, but it's not what really happened.

*Did you watch the dyno tuning done? I wouldn't accuse anyone of anything funny, but some of the other things you mention make me wonder if the "gains" might actually be from running the car on the dyno in 3rd gear and then again in 4th. I have seen it done before.

Again -- just some thoughts I wanted to put out there.

your #`s are close to mine (237rwhp & 247 rwtq) I see many parts that are the same as mine. pro-m 75,bbk 70mm tb (too big),24# inj. (too big) and the same catback. Mine is an auto so there is a bigger loss of power for me over your 5 speed. I would think you should be 280 rwhp.
I don`t like the sound of that 3rd gear pull.
And I was going to take my car there soon for a chip burn, I may rethink that.

those numbers are low, but then again it was run in 3rd. I ran at a mustang dyno with 2.73 gear and a ****ty fuel pump, the car wouldn't rev past 5k in 4th, so they ran me in 3rd, my numbers sucked ass, like 224 WHP @ 5400 or something like that, then I ran in 4th and got 249WHP at 5k (it would't go past 5k)

it probably took two weeks because they've been really busy. I know that james is really good at tuning.

I used to love to respond to dyno numbers and reasoning, but as time has passed, the dyno really means less to me then ever before...nonetheless, the comments by 89mustangGX are very real. Your numbers seem low to me as most Trick flow headed, cam and intake cars are running close to 300 rwhp. You do have the Evil 95 computer which can be a nightmare for tuners. Perhaps a tune up would do some good...dont forget to change the fuel filter as well..

i cant speak from personal experience, however i have seen some misleading things with blood.

i know a guy who took his car in for valvetrain geometry issues, they had the car for 2-3 weeks and he ended up getting charged storage fee's for one thing. he never knew it was finished. the total bill was north of 1200 dollars and all that was replaced were pushrods when he pulled the covers.

this would be one of a few others. sometimes it sounds like sketchy work and the prices seem high. i know alot of people say they have good results, i cant speak from personal experience like i said.

i would definately have NOT left my car with them for 3 weeks. i would think you schedule an appointment and go in for a couple hours and its done. how much money did you get charged for that? just curious.

rootus has a 95 with similar mods and i belive it put down just over 300 rwhp with problems trying to tune it right. i know at my shop we dont lik ekeeping cars more then a couple days and we dont charge storage untill you dont pick up your car i think we give you 1or 2 days then there is storage fees but we are not a performance shop just a service shop.

Hey man dyno numbers dont mean a damn thing. I would rather have way less hp and get down the track for a better time than have alot of hp and be slow down the track. Its way funner to brag about time slips than hp

Well my main experience is pretty much all with our Dynojet. Prior to that I had taken a few cars down to Bloods so Im not totally ignorant to the Mustang dyno. I would say your an honest 20 rwhp low even for a mustang dyno.
That is if all the information on the car was loaded correctly. I do like the Mustang dyno for its real world tuning abilities. I just dont care for how you can manipulate the numbers.
As far as making the pull in 3rd gear. We usually only do that when there is a tire issue, either bad tires or too low of a speed rating. In my Dynojet experience making a pull in a taller gear only substantially changes the torque number. The hp number is usually within a couple of horse.

To me they do sound low also? well kinda my 95 gt 5spd. put down 227.56 hp and 281.35 t.q. with the bolt on's and a cam no tune just the A/F. dinked with, and these were on a dyno jet at torque freak's. I have now added the head's intake and the gas plus a bigger pump and i'm hoping for 300hp. and 315tq. N/A and close to 400 with the gas (150 shot)? I go to the 94/95 section here alot as well and those guy's with bolt on's and JUST about any H/C/I package is putting what i want to be at! Some of them have a tune some dont? peace

The Mustang dyno puts a load on the rear wheels and so it is more realistic than a Dynojet. Prior to the dyno day I organized this past February, Doug Anderson dynoed his car at Bloods and then at the Mustang dyno at Fair Lady. The numbers matched. Dynos can be very humbling, but the track is reality, not the dyno. With those tall gears you are running and the load applied by the dyno, they probably had trouble getting your car to rev to an honest 5300 rpm in high gear so they used third. Just use the dyno for before-and-after comparisons relative to mods and tuning. That is appropriate and useful.

All my dealings with the people at Bloods have been positive. These guys come to the track, race their own cars and look after the performance of customer's cars. I don't see how you can ask for more. I'm sure they've made mistakes from time to time. Getting more performance entails many variables and it's not an exact science.

A Dynojet puts a load on the drive wheels as well. But you cant manipulate that load with inputs like car weight and gearing like you can a Mustang dyno. This makes it more real world and better for tuning. But not so good for comparing hp numbers.
