Dodge SRT-10 Pickup

Does anyone own or have experience driving the Dodge SRT-10 Pickup? We may be surprising my Dad with one and I was wondering how fast they really are. Can they smoke most Mustangs, Camaros, Trans Ams, at stock?

Yes, they are fast. Even the quad cabs move, they run high 13's IIRC and they are auto. The reg. cab is nice, 6 speed.

i worked for a dodge dealer and have driven a lot of them....the regular cab 6spd trucks are fast for a truck..i thing they run like low 14s high 13s stock...the quad cabs are much slower due to the auto trans and added weight...they are a very fun truck to drive but the power band is high so launches from a stop dont give you the seat of the pants feel that other 500hp vehicles would, but once they are moving they take off.

i came real close to owning one last summer. the price range i was dealing with after my trade in was about $50/mo more than i wanted, and they wouldnt budge. and it wasnt practical enough to be my daily driver, which it would have been.

needless to say, it was a hard decision to make AFTER i test drove it. that truck was just damn fun to drive. its fast, sexy and, stock for stock, it will take a lightning...and the ram doesnt have a blower on it. just to give you an idea if you've ever driven in a lightning....and it comes with a 5 speed (i dont think manual is offered in lightnings, correct?)

so yes, you're dad will love that gift. thats a pretty damn nice gift.

My dad drove one and said it was a beast, he wanted one as well but ended up with a Hemi instead... way more affordable/practical in the long run.

Surprise him with a Second Generation Lightning instead. They may be putting out a lot less power, but they’re a way cooler and sexier Truck IMO. And anytime I've ever seen or heard of them lining up against the SRT-10's, they seem to still come out on top. Just goes to show you that strapping a "boat anchor" like V-10 (even if it does make 500hp) under the hood really doesn't do a lot for weight distribution and hole shot on a truck thats already too nose heavy!

I have an 01 lightning and haven't meet one yet that can keep up. Only mods so far are exhaust and cold air.

I thought the Dodges where supposed to be faster than the Lightnings @ stock.

Yeah, so did the Ram SRT-10 owners.

Seriously though, the SRT-10 was said to have a faster top end than the Lightning, but then again who the hell wants to take a shoe box up to 150mph?

When it comes to quarter mile performance, getting those pigs out of the hole with any sort of competence requires some pretty impressive driver’s skill....and even then you've still got the laws of Physics working against you.

It all looked good on paper before it hit the streets, but in the real world, the Lightning is still king.

Seen my share at the track and drove both (L and SRT-10). The SRT-10 is faster, but overpriced when comparing the performance difference between the two.

My experience with the SRT10 owners are bad drivers...

That in turns gives them a bad name...

Amen brother, and to anyone who thinks a stock srt10 can hang with a stock L your fooling yourself. I'm probably not the greatest driver around and have never been to the track, but I have gone head to head with a few of these heavy behemoths and have yet to see one that could pull on my L. The truck is just to big and heavy, I'm sorry the Lightning is still top dog when it comes to sport trucks, world record or not.

driven both & i agree with both in the post above, the Lightning gets off much quicker & is very well balanced in weight.

guess it depends if your dad likes his head knocked back on launch or would rather cruise WOT in the passing lane on the highway.

Honestly my Dad just wants A TRUCK. Its my brother and I that are pushing for the SRT-10

well, its tough to defend a non-ford on a ford site. i disagree with the comments that it has an absent launch...ive driven both, Ls and Rams, and i was able to snap my head back with the Ram. either way, i personally prefer the srt10 even though i do love lightnings.

you cant go wrong with the ram.

yes, maintanence in general is $$$$ on those babies. take care of it, and hopefully, you should have no worries.

I guess if you look at it that way. But since you're already paying over $12,000 more for the Ram SRT-10 to begin with, are you really getting your moneys worth?

Honestly, you think you'd get a lot more for that kind of cabbage, but instead you get an overrated, single purpose vehicle, that gets 10mpg, is barely able to edge out the less powerful Lightning (which I have yet to see with all conditions being equal), yet still hasn't the ability to carry a load of drywall or haul a utility trailer (hence the single purpose statement). I mean....why own a truck at all if its payload capacity isn't much more than that of a full size car? Not to mention attaining further performance out of the Dodge beyond what you're saddled with from the factory will cost you a small fortune. Ever try pricing out Viper parts?

Lightning’s on the other hand not only get better fuel economy (in both the city and on the highway), but they will tow over 5000lbs, have a near 1,400lb payload capacity (like a truck should) and is backed by a huge supporting aftermarket ready to cater to it's every need. As far as performance goes, if mid-13's isn't enough for you, you're a mere pulley swap, a CAI and a tune away from solid 12's. Pretty good considering you're able to pull it off for about $1,000 worth of mods. Yet you're still coming in over $11,000 cheaper than the Dodge.

My perspective in this case......I'd personally rather pay less, to play more.
