does anyone know how you burp a cooling system?

The simplest way is to fill the system until full. Start the car and leave the cap off. The water level will rise and eventually overflow but then it will fall rapidly. Fill the system back up and install the cap. You should be good after that.

Remember to turn your heater on while burping to get all the bubbles out of the heating system too.

Do that on an uphill grade and you will be even beter off. I learned that little trick after having air pocket issues. The upper hose at the thermostat housing and the EGR cooling tubes are the highest points in the cooling system. You need to get the filler neck of the radiator to be the higest point. The air pockets will be more easily removed this way.
