Carbureted 4.6 DOHC Intake

Yeah good luck going back in technology. But I truthfully think if it was better than it would be known throughout the stangnet community that switching over to carb is a good mod for these cars.

why would he want to? there is a reason that you dont see Carb's used in real racing series or on production vehicles anymore.

but if he wants to take about 20 steps back technology wise then fell free to do it.

I can see why he would want to. I grew up in the "carb" days. They aren't really that hard to work on once you figure them out. They can be easy to tune. However, how do you get around the computer. It runs everthing from engine management to lowering the power windows. It would be enteresting to see how the carb kit gets around all of that. All the power runs thru it and it passes along the commands you want. I also think the fuel fule economy will suffer. I can't say because I don't know much about the new carbs. The same goes for HP's. Flip side to it is no "check engine" light when there's an emission problem. Pearl02.

Mustang_mob, tell your brother to stay EFI and do a little reading on the benefits. Have him focus on emissions and drivability in particular, if we didn't scare you off completely by now.

i didnt want to pull the CA flag, but putting a carb on a non carb'd car is a HUGE no no in CA.

not being mean but, "SO" what if you cant get you car inspected, which means you cant drive it on the street legally. Going carb you will have to tune for weather conditions to run perfectly & so on.

Stay EFI and be happy.

Leave fuel injected engines fuel injected IMO. Nascar engines are built around the carburetor. They do run them on funny cars as well - due to the hp limits of air metering. They make really advanced carburetors and intakes but they are designed for an engine that was built around it. You can get much more power out of a non metered engine and there are really good carbs out there....

...Here's the thing - a carbureted engine should be carb'ed and a fuel injected engine should be fuel injected. The head design and a whole slew of other factors can make the engine run horrible with a wet intake If you want to run carbureted, you would probably have to buy a carb'ed 4V crate motor that'l fit.
You would still have to make sure it bolts up to the tranny and PCM re-routing with the new engine or carbureted set up would have to be done.

It can be done there is a guy that did it around my town in an 01 Cobra. He has had a lot of problems with his and it made less hp than when it was FI. Not to mention he had to buy a new hood for it becasue the carb wouldnt fit under the stock hood

And the parts to do so would cost more than a dynotune and probably a subsequent dynotune when/if changes need to be made.
