A late model "Ram Air" Firebird tried to sneak around the right side of my car and when his left front tire got even with my side mirror, we both punched it hard. From 65 - 95 we stayed absolutely dead even. Does that seem right? I was pretty impressed with by whimpy little 4.6, especially since the Ram Air gave up first.

I think that sounds about right with your mods. If it would have lasted any longer then you would have gotten beat it think.

hey man, before i go my S/C i gave a 30th anniversary trans am a butt whoopin. ive always found that F-bodies have trouble pulling hard at the higher end. what you experienced sounds about right. and before i got my S/C my car was pretty much just like yours on the power front wouldnt you say?

That sounds about right... I raced a WS6 Trans am a few days ago from a roll of about 45mph... we were about even but right before i shifted into 4th i started pulling away and once I got into 4th I was about a car length ahead. Sometimes my wimpy 4.6 surprises me! lol

what kind of gearing do camaros and firebirds have? ive had a couple instances where from like 50-55 starting i kill new SS's and Trans Am's. and i have stock gearing. is it possible that even with all that power F-bodies are geared solely for acceleration?

ive experienced the exact opposite of you guys mostly. most of the time i can take a ls1 camaro/firebird outta the hole, and pull a half car or so by the end of 2nd, but once third comes into play, they begin to pull back the half car, and continue pulling away as the speeds increase. they are geared to pull hard top end btw.
btw i have beaten numerous lt-1's. its the ls1's that you have to be carefull of. they pack about 320-340 fwhp.

thanks c2see21, that cleared that one up. by the way BullittStangV8, did you experience this in your bullitt? or in your cobra? just wondering cause your cobra should blow F-bodies away.

All that power going to the front wheels of that heavy torque monster? Must be a bear to drive.

Usually you just say XXXhp when you mean flywheel, and XXXfwhp/rwhp/whp when you mean at the wheels.

Obviously he knows the car is RWD, i'm just messin around a bit.

I was looking to buy an LT1 a few months ago but the only reason i didnt is because every single one i found was auto. I didnt see a single 6-spd...and whats the fun of all that power if you cant shift ur own gears.....even if it is all 320 of them
My cuz has a 01 WS6 and that thing is a rocket. wouldnt want to drive one every day though. I know im not exactly tall, but i can barely see over the hood of that thing...its like trying to parallel park a 747.

hey AirWolf87 not ragging on ya, just settin ya straight in case you didnt know, the LT1 only has 275 horse power where as the LS1 has 320, but you are right on the speed front, i had an 00 trans am with the ws6 pack, it was a rocket, but so uncomfortable!!! im not even talking suspension, heck my 03 has 00 cobra R suspension, but the ride height and seating sucked in it! and you were right about the hood, i am 6'2 and it was still very high and annoying. was pretty powerful though, but no stang!

I was talking about when i drive the Bullitt VS lt1's/ls1's.

the cobra would own both the ls1 and lt1 camaro/firebirds. 420 hp > 320

btw, ive drivin in z28s, and they are not very comfortable at all. you sit very very low in the car, and they have a very long dash and high hood. its like your looking down the hood of a suburban.

and ls1 drivers think they are amazing due to the engine that they have. the ls1 z28s and firebirds are rated at 320 hp. however, they are drastically under rated. most likely they are putting out 340-345 hp. therefore, typically they are able to beat up on mustangs from a roll or higher speeds due to their drastically higher hp numbers. 275 hp vs 340 can be ugly. (many car lengths very quickly). from a stop though we have a chance to hang or get the lead. its just the longer the race, the smaller the chances we have to win.
you can solve all this ls1 superiority complex by getting a blower or s/c. at that point you will walk ls1's.
