does your oil light come on when key turned?

I replaced my dash a couple months ago, and recently I noticed I was running really low on oil and my check oil light didn't come on. I'm wondering if I might have jarred the bulb loose on the back of the dash panel.

When you turn the key in the ignition, does the check oil light come on, then go off when the car is started?

Any other way of testing the check oil light without removing the dash panel again?

On my 89 it came on when the key was in the crank position and that was it

thanks ID89GT, my light does come on when I crank the engine, so I guess it's working - I guess my oil level wasn't quite low enough to trigger the light - thanks again
