Ive got a 1993 LX, and i wanna convert it to look like a 1986 GT. I just fell in love with the 4 eyed look!

I know i need a new bumper cover (front and rear) and new header panel for the headlights. what else do i need? is there an aftermarket supplier that sells the stuff new? do i also need new side moldings?

any help would be appreciated. thanks!

I'll save you time and money. Just buy the car you want.

DO NOT CONVERT CARS

First of all, the '85-86 parts are getting expensive. Number 2, save the parts for people who actually have '85-86 cars. Don't ruin an aero nose car to make it a 4 eye or vise versa.

Also, if you swap the noses, the car will never be right. Simply becuase it would cost a fortune to swap every part to make it look identical to a original 4 eye.

If you were to do the swap. You would need these parts from an '85-86 GT.
1. Front bumper cover
2. Front impact support
3. Front impact support arms
4. Fog light mounting bar
5. Fog lights
6. Fog light covers
7. Fog light wiring harness
8. Headlight panel
9. Headlights
10. Headlight wiring
11. Fenders (Lh, Rh)
-'85-89 specific
12. Fender extensions
13. Hood
14. Doors
-Dril rails are different, so are the mirrors.
15. Sail panels
16. Tail lights
17. Rear Bumper Cover

Anybody who knows 4 eyes, knows that those parts are far from being cheap. Sure you might be able to find a few aftermarket parts, but those are as good as junk. Common sense tells you that though. Just do a short price list of those parts, then factor in shipping as well. I think you'll change your idea of the swap.

Oh and thats just the exterior, don't forgot the interior. Also, take into consideration that you have to paint ALL of the parts still and have them installed. I wouldn't exactly consider that cheap. Also, you'd have to cut and splice all your exsisting headlights/blinkers wiring harnesses to work on the '86 nose. The '86 has 4 headlights and 4 side markers, and if you want to figure in the fog lights add 2 more to the total. The aero nose only has a total of 6 lights. Plus you'd have to add a switch for the fog lights to work properly.

To be honest, by the time you did the complete conversion on your '93, you'd have so much money in that car that you could have bought a stock '85-86 GT and still keep your '93 LX. Also, if you ever went to sell that car after the conversion was done. Nobody would want that car thats been all messed with, i personally wouldn't touch a car like that with a 10ft stick.

Regardless of what people think and say, these cars(talking about '85-86 and '87-93) are alot more different then you think. And don't do a half ass job either. If your gonna do it, do it right or don't it at all. But you should just not do it at all anyways.

Good luck

Edit: If your 100% set on doing the conversion, the guys over at foureyedpride.com - Home would be glad to lend a helpful hand!

Coming from a 4-eye guy, just sell your stuff and buy a 4-eye. Or pick up a 4-cylinder 4-eye and swap the drive train. I know at least one other 4-eye guy who, like me, eyes bleed when he sees 4-eye conversions. I mean, by the time you swap everything over to be legitimate, you'll have done the whole car. And you'll have killed two different, GOOD cars in the process. And if you don't do it right, people will always be confused on which look you were trying to pursue; the 4 eye or the aero look.

Sorry to come off as a jackass, but thats just how most of us 4-eye guys think.

You'll need a new hood too.

I don't see the big deal. I always told myself if i ever hit my nose and need to replace it, i'm swapping it to a 85-86 GT front end. They are the most aggressive looking Fox's IMHO. I wouldn't want to sell my car to track one down however. I have way too much blood, sweat and tears into her to sell her.

^^ Thats even a bigger mistake then converting to the '85-86 4 eye style.

Also, any true 4 eyed guy knows that you never ruin/and or convert a car. Its an unwritten law. You just don't do it period.

Hasn't anyone learned from my pain? It's a bitch getting my Capri emission tested because of it's identity crisis and it's just blasphemy to take a four eye or aero's identity away.

The words "Cheap" or "clean" do not come in the same sentence as "4 eye conversion".

I'll remember this when you guys are drooling over my new front end when I get it done.

my car passes emissions and runs fine. I dont plan on selling it and what I do with it is as far as I'm concerned my business. If I can do something to make it look better then I'm going to do it. the 79 cobra and 82gt bumper is perhaps the cleanest front end on a mustang since the sixties, but hey mebbe it wont look as good as a spyder body kit and about 6 hoot scoops.

If by "drooling" you mean this ----> Then, yes, we probably all will be doing so.

Yes, the '82 GT/'79 pacecar front ends are beautiful ... but there's more to it than just the front end. And if you're going to just slap that four-eyed nose on an aero car, the rest of it will soooooo not look right. For starters, take a look at the centerline of an '82/'79 front end closely and then look at that of a '93. Totally different deal. So, in order for that to not stick out like a sore thumb, you'll need to change out all of the side mouldings to match it, as well as the rear bumper. And then of course you'll need a different hood because the aero hood won't fit with a four-eyed nose. And then you'll just have an '82 GT/'79 pacecar wannabe with the wrong quarter windows, which will also look silly, so those will have to go, as well. And ... well, then you wind up with the mile-long list of necessities listed above, whereupon you would not only be better off (financially and end-result-wise) just buying a four-eye of your preference, but you'd also avoid being flamed and looked upon with disdain by just about every major Fox-body group (I think Foureyedpride actually issues "severe beating warrants" for this offense), and "pic whoring" would no longer be an option ... unless you don't mind ALWAYS hearing "Why did you put a four-eyed nose on a '93?" or "It'd look better with an aero nose on it" all of the time.

And yes, it is your car and you CAN do with it as you wish. However, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you SHOULD. After all, I CAN beat myself in the face with a claw hammer and slam my weenie in a car door repeatedly, but common sense tells me I should NOT.

I swapped noses only because of 2 things....1, it stayed 4 eye and to me that's less of a "crime" than going from 4 eye to aero. 2, they never put this nose on a coupe and i think it's the sickest looking nose you can put on a Mustang and ever since i was a kid i've wanted this combo. When the chance came to make it happen, i jumped all over it.

Then, it turns out that on top of that, my car is an SSP, which also ruffled a lot of feathers. I always find it funny how people want to build your car for you and have no respect for individuality. I can understand and in some aspects agree with it being wrong to convert a 4 eye over to an aero nose, because you're changing the identity of a more-unique car into one that is readily available and super easy to find. With my car, i created something that never existed but IMO should have.

In the end i still stand by the opinion that "it's your car, do what makes you happy", but my true opinion of nose swaps is that they're a waste...my car included, in the sense that it took away from the SSP identity of the car. But in the end you've gotta do what ultimately makes you happy, and since getting another car wasn't an option for me, i had to make due with what i had. Also just for good measure, i have the original nose and hood in storage, and none of it is irreversable so i could go back to original in one afternoon of work.

i'd ask you yo please not resort to name calling especially since I have done or said nothing to you.
my age is none of your business, but if you really must know I own a house have a wife and two kids.

one of the things I love about this board is that people usually have an open mind. I respect others opinions and I expect the same when I state mine. If anyone here has ever had a problem with anything I have ever posted then the mods have stepped in and done their jobs. lets keep this civil so that another thread doesnt get locked. thanks for understanding.

I just asked for help, and all i got was useless criticism.

I wanted to do a 4 eye conversion solely because i thought it would be unique to have a 85-86 exterior and have an aero interior.

I didnt mean for the thread to go this way, i just asked for help where to find thse parts, no for someone to tell me, and, in bold uppercase letters,

DO NOT CONVERT CARS

its my car, i do what i want, and truthfully, i dont see the big deal in converting vehicles. What about the guys who do eleanor clones? what about the guys that do Terminator clones but have a 4.6 SOHC motor? why not go find those guys and bash them for doing that too?

I thought this forum was supposed to be helpful. But, all there is is a bunch of critics that think they know it all and have the right to tell someone what to do with thier car and spend that persons money.

Great going.

I agree with you on the cheap part but, the clean part I'll have to dissagree.

While I do NOT condone conversions of any kind, my Ex and his brother did an EXCELLENT job converting my Capri to an aero nose Mustang. Exterior, interior, drivetrain, EVERYTHING.

These pics are 14 - 15 years old, btw....

Here is what it looks like today (fwiw, aero headlights are a bitch to keep straight and keeping them from yellowing is a pita too. Four eye ftw...

As soon as I can find a Capri front end and the other parts I need, it's going back to what is should be.

If you're going to post on a forum, you have to understand that everyone will have a different opinion. The parts are hard to find. Go search some junkyards. Good luck.

You'll have better luck just buying a REAL four eye though.
