whats up guys, im planning out my motor swap for my 98 gt. Im planning on a 03 cobra motor. My question is, which exhaust parts will i need. Im want to have long tubes, maybe SLP's make, but do i get the headers for the 03 cobra or the gt. what about the mid pipe. Im just wondering about fitment and stuff like that. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks.

p.s. im also planning on swapping to the t56 as well, so i would assume that might have an impact on the mid pipe question.

If I'm not mistaken (and i hope somebody corrects me if i am wrong) you will need the LTs for the cobra engine. The mid pipe is the same on all of them (if you have LTs that is) so any one should work... I think.

I dont believe the T56 will interfere with the midpipe. If you were swapping to an automatic that would be a different story.

Don't Cobras have the funky catback that doesn't go over the axle...just kinda hangs around on the bottom?

Yes they do, it goes right under the middle of the IRS (the part that doesnt move) between the two lower control arms. He will still retain the solid rear so the catback he doenst have to worry about.

what state are you in. we had a 96 gt come into my work with a 03 cobra motor swapped into it. we had to fail him because he used LTs and a catted midpipe(both are illegal in CA), but we also got him for not having a returnless style fuel system. check with your states laws on emissions and see if you have to convert to a returnelss style system. we also failed the kid for having an Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator. you cant have adjustable FPRs in CA.

wow, you guys in CA dont ***** around.

yeah i was thinking about getting the RR hood or the 2000 cobra r style hood, they make them now for the 94-98's. yeah i dont know about the returnless fuel system. I live in CT. which motor has the returnless system, the one i currently have or the 03? what is the purpose of it.

the 03 is returnless. we made the guy do it because he wanted to use an 03 motor which is fine, but you have to have all emissions related components for an 03 on there. returnless fuel system is one. i think the car ended up leaving CA because we told him that he had to have a stock midpipe, there are no aftermarket ones legal in CA that we know of. the LT headers of course werent legal and they had to come off as well.

From what I understand, some '98 models use a returnless system and all '99-up GT Stangs use them....I'm a little foggy on the Cobra's though?
