so recently the rear end of my car is shot, so ive decided to upgrade to 31 spline stuff and see how it goes. i only bought the car about 3 months ago without a warrenty but i called up the dealer and they said they would foot some of the bill

this is what im planning on going with

Eaton Differential, Posi Performance, Limited Slip, 31-Spline, Ford, 8.8 in., Each $479.95
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=ETN-19588-010

Gear, Ring and Pinion, 3.55:1 Ratio, Ford, 8.8 in, Set $195.88
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=RMG-4901031

Gear Lube, GL-6 Gear Oil, 75W140, Limited Slip, Synthetic, 1 qt., Each $9.95 $29.85

Axles, 31-Spline, Rear, Ford, Mustang, 8.8 in., Kit $279.99
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SAG-EV83

it comes out to just under 1000 bucks and the shop is charging me 350 for the install

kind of wondering if this is a good setup and a good price or if i missed anything or anyone would recomend a diffrent part or whatnot

thanks for the time

You might want to check out the FRPP complete assembly if you really don't need the 31 spline axles. Part M-4006-B373. List at $875.00. I would think that Summit probably has a better price. Just drop the old and bolt in the new. I did that earlier this year when I managed to bend the axle housing.

I just finished my rear end rebuild on my 98, I got the mosier axles, an auburn diff, and all new seals, syn oil, and bearings. Summit has a gear kit that comes with richmond gears, syn oil, seals, bearings (accept axle bearings) and Trickflow diff cover for $410. I have about 1k miles on the rear now, with zero issues, and that whole myth about the richmond gears being noisy is wrong. My 94 has ford racing gears and is louder than the richmonds. Ohh and it's 31 spline as well.

the axels actualy come with the bearings and seals, and in the future im going with a 408 stroker then twin turboin that so i think the 31 spline is in order for future needs

the reason i did not go with the full unit is because it does not come with the axel shafts and i wanted to go to 31 spline while im here and i wanted something a little stronger than the trak-lok ford has

My .02 is that you have a good plan and 350 for that install is extremely reasonable. Often times install for the gears alone is about that much. I personally like the Auburn units however I have no scientific information to back that up other then I know people that run them with great success.

If you are going with a TT 408, I'd read up on Turbo Mustangs and ask around for rear end ratio advise. 3.55 is most likely fine but because I'm afraid to do that work myself I would only want to do it once... I hate paying someone else to work on my cars!

part of the reason i choose the reason i choose the 3.55's is most people with say 3.73 for n/a cars and 3.27 for turbo applications.

i probably wont be in the turbo realm for a while being that i need to get the swap done first drive that for a bit then turbo in the future

so i comprimised with 3.55 kind of uncommon but should be fun both n/a and turbo in the future

Strange axles are suspect at best. Do a search for KillerCanary and strange axles and read about what his father went through using them.
