OK, guys, im gonna be installing a Bassani O/R X-Pipe on my 99Gt this Friday. Just need some advice. I know i will need the following:
*MIL Eliminators
*Jack Stands
*Good Wrench Set
*A good 2-3Hours
- Also, do i need a special tool to remove the o2 sensors and what size bolts are on the exhaust (what size wrench will i need?) Also, do i just reuse the stock gaskets?

All Advice is welcome, and the usual "get a few beers and take your time" thing won't work, im only 17 :( and driving to the track that night to test it out. Thanks

Today is your lucky day

that site has it about right. One thing just un plug the O2 sensors, and pull them out of the pipe while the pipe is off the car. It's easy. If you get too worried I can help you do it in an evening in about 30 minutes, or I'll be headed into downtown once night this week to see some friends, and could stop by to lend some pointers. I live in Spring. Wish I could hit HRP Friday too. I'm going out of town on Thurs, but plan to go Jan 2/3 which ever is that Friday.
Just don't round off the manifold bolts w/ the swivel.

It's easy, but use ramps if possible for the front, and jack the rear up, and put it the rear on jack stands. That will give plenty of room. :nice:

Make sure you have a lot of socket heads, and some extensions. They need to be at least 9" long. Having a socket wrench that is flexible helps a lot too, since the header bolts are pretty hard to get to. No special tools needed for the o2 sensors, just use a wrench. Make sure you don't get any grease or anything on the o2 sensors, I did and I think I fouled them. I say that becuase I installed the MIL eliminators and my CEL still came on.

Don't worry, you should be fine. I installed my X-pipe myself with the help of my bro. I am 18 and he is only 15. All we had were two floor jacks, a small hydro jack, and a nice set of socket wrenches. We only had about 10" of room to use down there.

Also, don't forget to get liquid wrench anti-seize lubricant!! It makes taking bolts off and putting them back on a LOT easier.

My header bolts came of with WD40 5 minutes before wrenching. 4 year old bolts loosened relatively easily.

It's a really straight forward process, like 8 bolts total. Well worth the hour or so it took with 2 of us (without really knowing what we were doing)

My header bolts came off fine when I let wd40 sit on them for a little bit. The biggest pain for me was getting the socket to sit on the bolt correctly and stay there. Once you get it to stay on the bolt you'll be fine...just be patient. When you tighten the header bolts though, make sure you tighten each in equal increments. In other words tighten one side until its snug and then go the other bolt (on the same manifold). Don't tighten one side all the way down and then the other. Kind of the same concept as putting on a tire.

It has been a while since I installed mine, but the thing I found to work best was several short extensions (the kind that come with your typical $10 socket set), instead of one really long one as this gave things a bit of play to arch around obstructions, also you may nee both a deep and shallow socket for the passenger side header bolts (note you should disconnect your battery for safety as you will be working near the starter. Also you may want to pick up a cheap breaker bar in case some of the bolts need some extra encouragement.

I use 2 regular ole long extnsions.

Don't stress. It's so easy. :nice:
As long as you don't round your bolts off.

EDIT : and a plain deep socket for the bolts.
Actually I think they're a 15, or 10mm. I started using standar size, and rounded one. :bang: Gotta be metric sockets !

That's true. Be carefull there. Turn them the right way, with the right size socket too (don't pull a 68 & 00 GT). The swivel makes it more difficult to be straight on the bolts.

I've changed my mid pipes out 5-6 times.

stock to O/R X pipe,
X pipe back to Stock,
Stock to O/R H pipe
O/R H pipe to Catted X
Catted X to LT's and O/R X

Somewhere I put my O/R H back in for the hell of it, and immediately pulled it out. No good O/R H w/ straight through mufflers.

Got it right now ! Jet Hot LT's, O/R X, Magnaflow catback =

Good luck -
