Door Acuator Problem

My door locks stopped working a few days ago so i took of door panel yesterday i took out the door latch and all the rods and took a look and it didnt look like nething was bad. So now it was really hard to get the latch out i got it back in but none of the rods are hooked up.

Is there a diagram i can see to make it easy to hook up the rods to the latch and such?

Also i thought it was the latch because i didnt know if your acuator went that manually the door won't unlock/lock.

if you have a hard time with you door using you key its most likely your acuator just change it you need a rivet gun and a drill or dremel to take the old one out pretty easy though, as for a diagram its a rather simple design just a mintue of looking at it and you can get the idea. good luck

I didnt have to drill any rivets or anything to replace the actuators.

See Jrichker's own webpage for the door lock retrofit. He has pictures of the guts of the door, the rods, etc. That might help you. And if you do need actuators, consider his retrofit. The actuators work really nicely and you can't beat the price.

i know you never steered me wrong when i needed help before, but how else would you remove the acuator since its riveted into the inside of the door by not busting out the rivet in someway?

I have plastic brackets holding my actuators in place. The actuator slips out of the brackets (it's a real tight fit but the brackets have openings to allow the actuators to come out). Then if a bracket needs replacement (as one of mine did), you can remove the snap-ring behind the actuator (it's on the rivet IIRC) and swap brackets too.

This is on my 88 GT vert, which might be different than how the metal brackets are. That's probably where we're off PeteyAce.

i had a 89 vert and had rivets and i have a 91gt thats got plastic.weird.lol

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $5. Fix one side for $18, do both sides for only $25. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

I installed this with a rivet thru where the original rivet was with the acuator and it keeps falling. the rivet wont hold it in and it falls into the door and then obviously dont work.. what can i use.. i tried a bolt and a nut but the acuator seemed as if it was stuck and it wouldnt move.
