Door dings.

Door dings, everyones got 'em. Everyone hates them. I've got a number of them on both sides ranging from the front panel, door, to the rear-side panels. How do you get rid of them? I REALLY don't feel like replacing all my body panels to just make my car look smooth and new. There has to be a good tool, or method to use in undenting your dents. Any help is needed.

Take your car your a body shop? Most body shops around here just want to replace the entire panel to fix the job. There has to be a secret to get these little dings out.

yup... its called pull all the trim off, and use some stuff called ever coat... its a body filler that can be put over paint... thats most likely how any body shop will fix it, if the dents arent to bad.. hell i just did mine and it was toasted... Its not a bondo bucket, but it did have a few bad spots.... once i get my fender extensions ill post pics of the outcome of learning to do body work...

Great thanks. I assume you put the ever coat on the dented area and sand them out smooth like bondo?

I met this guy who had a business just for that. Sorry I don't remember the name of the business, but he charged like $20 per ding. He said he removed panels etc. from the car and banged them out from the inside using some special tools.

I've got a few dings myself that I'd like to get out.

If the dents are little, not creased, and the paint isn't cracked you can use a paintless dent removal company. If you have for example, 3 dents per panel they can do the entire car for around $200-300 and you'll never even know there was a dent int he first place. They are a mobile service too, and quick. They can do an entire car with lots of dents in less then an hour. I use them when I get dents.

I heard a rumor that on a hot day you can take an ice cube and hold it on the dent. After awhile the coldness pops the dent back out. Anyone also heard that before?

go with the paintless dent removal method. I had some dings repaired on my jeep. guy had all these weird little tools. it's amazing how he got them out. most bodyshops now have these guys come in and remove the dings. better than Bondo.

I don't know about that. Hot day + Ice = water.

Thanks for the links silverbullet. However, the Auto Cosmetic website you gave me offer no services in the United States. Bondo seems like a last resort method. I'm going to call around and find out about some local paintless dent removal companies. Thanks for the help.

Anyone else have this?

On my 93 lx on the rear 1/4 panels that run along the hatch there is a few ripples on each side, they look to be where they 1/4's are welded to the roof, I know this car was never beat on becasue it is 100% stock and i bought it off a 60 year old man who was the original owner and swore he never even took it above 4500 rpm, lol. It was also never in a accedent or painted on. Any idea if this is normal? does anyone have any idea what i am talking about?

Don't got the Bondo route until your certain the paintless dent removal guys can;t take them out. Try calling some auto dealerships and talk to the used car manager, they often have companies that come in and do their cars that they take in on trades. Also, try calling some body shops.

yes paintless dent repair is another option... but that is also a lot of $$$$... i just met a guy who does it, and was trying to have him fix a friends hail damaged gt an said that it was gonna be about 50 bucks per dent.. so if u have a 1 or 2 i guess it isnt to bad, but when you have about 60... OUCH....

It can be expensive but so can Bondo and paint, prep, etc. Also, some paintless dent repair people price the job by panel. So if you only want to get 2 doors, fender, etc done you pay by the panel and not the dent. These guys work so fast it's amazing. They can knock out an entire car pretty quickly.

Does 'pops-a-dent' work?? it looks like it could, i heard somewhere about a plunger works for dents ?????

not sure about pop-a-dent, is that a company? I wouldn't use a plunger. You can remove a really big dent with a plunger but you can also stretch the body and leave ripples in the metal.
