do your self a favor and use bolts/lock washers instead of rivets. that way if they break you dont have to go through the hassle of drilling rivets out, you can just unbolt them.
drill all of the way through the old rivvets and when puttingthe new ones on use a bolt about 3/4 inch long with some locker washers on both sides and tighten it good and it should be good.
If you do use the rivets, make sure to secure the head of the rivet gun. If you are not really careful, whent the rivet pops, the rivet gun will drop down and scratch the paint.
