Door Latch Rods

I'm starting to clean up all my door latches, handles and rods prior to re-installing them. The longest rod has a braided sleeve over it which is looking frayed and tired. I can't find any replacement sleeve in the NPD catalog. Has anyone replaced this braided sleeve part, and if so, with what?

the sleeve is probably to help against rattles.

I just slit some vac. hose and put it over
