Background...

Had the door lock actuator go out on my 5.0 a while back. I've been having to lock/unlock the driver's door with my key. Couple days ago I turned the key to lock the door and something broke inside the door and the key would just spin around and not lock the door.

Took the inner door panel off and found out what broke. Not sure what the thing is called, but it's the piece that connects the rod that goes from the lock to the actuator. I took it off and it had a ford part number stamped on it, but went to the dealer and no luck. It's a part they don't stock anymore.

Anyone know where I can find this part at? I can take some pics and post them if needed.

Thanks in advance!:nice:

That is what I am thinking, and it should be readily available at most Ford-L/M dealers. Actually I want to say that the HELP section of the local parts stores has similar retainers.

I had one go out awhile back on my first mustang. I went to a lock smith they popped my lock out by pulling the metal retainer clip at the jam of the door. They replaced the clip and I was good to go in like 10 mins. I would go to a locksmith and they would probably just charge you the 1 or 2 for the part and install for free.

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $5. Fix one side for $18, do both sides for only $25. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

Here’s a picture of the new actuator installed:
