has any body taken the glass out of the door? I'am painting mine and have taken everything apart removed the stops, the big metal part that the track is on seems to be what is stoping me. does that have to be removed? it looks like little ribits that hold it on. if so how do they come off. any help would be great. thanks

I've never had to take my glass out to repaint mine. I did take the glass out once to exchange it with a better one... I can tell you it wasn't easy. Trim pieces are about the only things you need to remove to repaint your car.

If you still want to remove the glass you first roll the window all the way up. Than remove the center pins from the regulator attaching rivets using a center punch. Using a 1/4" drill, remove the heads from the regulator attaching rivets. Support the glass, disengagethe regulator arm from the glass bracket and remove the regulator assembly from the door. When replacing the regulator assembly use 1/4" x 1/2" screws in place of the regulator attaching rivets.

Yes, and I didn't have to drill anything.

I did it all with a pack of wrenches.

It's been 20+ years since I've done it, but I know I left those big plastic stops on the door. Like Wart, wrenches only.
