our cars don't really double clutch i think... but if i recall correctly isn't it putting it in neutral, revving it, then putting it into gear- it has something to do with older cars without good syncros or something like that

driving, press in the clutch and let out the clutch with the car in neutral give it some gas to the rpms go up press in the clutch and keep the rpms up and shove it into the next gear. If starting in first it makes your car feel like its getting a extra little boost but all your doing is taking more time. On the other hand if going from a roll you can do this and people say its not as hard on your tranny because the engine is already going XXXX rpm rather than jumping in rpms from the down shift

Car in gear, clutch in, put into nuetral, clutch out. Clutch in, put into gear, clutch out...

Its a waste of time unless you are in a none synchronized tractor trailer...

Try powershifting for best results!

right on. as said, double clutching is for non synchro'd trannies (TT's, old british stuff [old cars period]).

i could be wrong, but i think powershifting is where you floor it and when you shift, you dont lift off the gas. you keep it floored and make a superfast shift.

yes, powershifting is never touching the clutch and flooring the gas whilst changing gears quickly. badly worded but oh well. if you can't do it just right, it wears out your trany, but if done right, it should knock time of the ET.

there is also a different way of shifting of which i have not heard a name yet which is you leave the gas floored the whole time and at shifting points, the clutch is depressed just for enough time to shift to the next gear (very small amount of time) and then the clutch is let out again. all while the gas is floored. anyone know the name for that one?

Poweshifting is when you dont let off the gas when you push in the clutch and shift. Its not a very smart thing to do w/ a T-5 Transmission but it will break it after time.

I'm pretty sure powershifting it just ripping the shifter into gear as fast as possible without touching the clutch at all... if you clutched while holding the go pedal down, wouldn't you rev out, especially if you're already that high on the tach?

If you powershift correctly, you'll only go down about 500 rpms between gears, its that fast.

Guys like Killer that kick and shove so fast, I don't know how you do it, but damn

Powershifting is when the you do not lift off the throttle between gears... the clutch IS used. Don't shift it without the clutch. It can be done, but not for long. That's just plain BEATING your car. I do NOT powershift, I lift on every shift, but I do it as fast as is humanly possible. I plan to get a in car video of me shifting it like this so people that are new to racing at a track will know when I and others tell them they need to shift FASTER. I've seen many guys nail the launch but still end up with crappy times... the reason is they shift too slow.

I always thought that powershifting was without using the clutch.

I thought that this is why hardcore guys get dog ringed trannies so they can slam it in easier without the clutch. These are otherwise known as crash boxes for a couple reasons, mostly though because when you put it into first it clunks like a motorcycle tranny. These trannies are awesome for downshifts but suck for upshifts because you have to rev-match, so they are not commonly seen for street use.

I will bow to your wisdom, Obi Wan, but what DO you call it when you shift without the clutch?

Killer is dead on with this one. My buddy is a powershifting SOB.... I have a video at home of him doing it, but it's dark and we're talking. I'll see if I can put it on the net soon.

He uses the clutch, but it's so freakin' fast you can barely tell. When you ride with him, it sounds EXACTLY like someone hitting the tranny with a sledgehammer!!

I've only seen him miss a gear once. Didn't sound too good either.

He also works for Ford in Dearborn now and is a certified Ford guy. He rebuilds his tranny for the fun of it and calls it general maintance.

Oh, and he had to relearn how to race when he put juice on his car. Nitrous doesn't leave much room for error when you don't take you foot of the gas pedal.

See I always thought of what you were saying as "speed shifting." If you want specifics, there is a company called Jerico that makes trannies specifically for what I was talking about, without synchros, so that you have to rev match it to do what I'm talking about, and street shifting is a PITA. But when you do, it will slide effortlessly into gear, and there IS room for a little error. I've heard that truck drivers do this all the time, got no proof of that though.
