yes, it is not a form of racing, but it does require alot of skill not alot have. Therefore SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED BY IDIOTS ON THE STREET. It seems fun to me when i look at the videos, but when i think about all the times they break their cars and all the money going into it. ****, i cant even get enough money to buy myself a bodykit for my car in one year and paint it.
And yes, your car will take ALOT of abuse, and do you have the $$$$ to fix it after it breaks. And like stated above, do you even have the power to do it? Those videos you see of those drivers are owners of major tuning companies, or are somehow affeliated with some major company to get endless amounts of parts and money.
Dude, stick to video games or keep dreaming.
I was afraid alot of these posts were going to pop up after the dumb movie previews. Now i bet i will hear about how some dumb kid tried to drift on a street near a cliff and messed up.

Drifting on the street should land you in jail, I think do this on the street make drag racing or corner carving on public roads look safe.

as far as drifing is not a sport.. well I would not go that far, but I think it's funny how the ricer movement came up with a auto sport that is subjective based and there is no winners based on the veicles performance.

think about it... many tracks now have "street nights" wher they shut down the time clocks, they had to shut the time clocks down at tracks to attract the ricers... This is because ricers and people of that mentality do not like facts. it's hard to pretend you run 10's on your nauzzzz when the clock says 15.8...they rather do sports where performance times do not matter, in fact nothing matters other than judges thinking you destroyed tires better than the other guy.

i think drifitng is cool. that takes some serious skills to do it right(not talking about those moron in his FWD with lunch trys, or doing it in street either), and done right, i think it shows absolute control of car by its driver, and thats just as good as any other form of motersports

But thats just me

Some Mickey D's lunch trays under the front tires will make things really interesting.

Hey, drifting is much older than the ricer movement.
http://www.fansview.com/racing/050998a.htm

It's the shortest way around the track, isn't it?

Yes, doing this on the street is completely stupid.

I never said drfiting is not a sport.

drifitng has been going on in racing for a long time, but in that example you use drifiting around corners IS the fastest way around the track. What is going on in these dedicated drifting competions is not a form of racing at all. it's a judged " how cool did I look doing that" competition..

It does take a LOT of skill to do and sure it is a sport just like other judged events are sports too, BUT I still find it funny how they created a sport that fits their mentality

it's all show and judged by how cool it looks..

in the example you shown you have to finish first and win the race, there is no judge at the finish line that thinks the car that finished last got more sideways and looked cooler

I think drifting is cool... then again I have more billet on the stang than most women have shades of finger nail polish...

I dunno, I think its a nice little "trend" sport. Its a shame that theres a lot of rice in it, but the field is slowly balancing out. I think Drifting would be a cool intermission at a drag compitition, just like the rodeo clowns in between events....

No to Drifting....it will make your penis shrivel up, no really it will.
And doing that on the street is kinda stupid isn't it? Besides drifting requires alot of HP/TQ and thats not cheap.

Not really power, but suspension, chasis, and tire setup.

If you want a cheap drifter, buy yourself a 240sx, an 84-87 Corolla, or fc rx7.

of course you need a lot of power.
the power has to be on par with the suspension mods. if you have a lot of suspension/chasis mods, what do you think is gonna get the wheels spinning, hopes and dreams?

3-2 downshift and popping the clutch. Or ebrake to slide the rear.
