The coolant is gonna want to turn to steam much faster . I thought there was some other reason behind it as I'm always interested in learning and extra ways to keep my car cool . I work on diesel stuff for a living so I thought maybe there was something I hadn't thought of or was missing .

Any idea what the coolant pressure level gets to under normal conditions? For instance, if you run a 16lb cap, will it run at 16lb and bleed off anything higher? Or will it normally stay under 16lb anyway?

In thinking about putting the stock rated 16lb cap back on.

That is the premise that cap should not blow unless it exceeds 16lbs of pressure . But at or under 16 pounds it changes the boiling point of the water or antifreeze and keeps it from starting to turn to steam at 212 ( if it were straight water ) . 50/50 is obviously a higher temp to boil due to the additives

for every 1lb about atmospheric pressure on the cap, it raises the boiling point like 30 some degrees So the 16# cap raises the boiing point 1.3X 30 ish or aound 50 degrees.
