Drip rail rust?

I have a 65 coupe that I am just starting to restore. My first restore project ever. I have started striping the old paint and have found rust in a few spots around the drip rails of the side windows that goes clear through. How in the world can this be fixed? Is this something that I will need to take in and have something custom fabricated to repair?

The drip rail is supposed to have a bead of seam sealer spread in the trough of the drip rail. If the holes are out where you can see right through your drip rail its not a problem at all. Just make sure you have all the rust cleaned out, sand blasting is a good way to besure all of the rust is gone.

Seam sealer is a very usefull tool. I watched my body man do some amazing stuff with it. You can hide small holes and rough spots in areas that would be almost impossible to fix. You just want to be sure you use a high quality seam sealer.

there are drill attachm,ents to sand and clean up that area. i did it on my first resto project. a 65 coupe. welcome to the family by the way

It really depends upon how bad and exactly where on the drip rails the rust happens to be but I would try and get metal back in there even if it is merely a patch. I'm stripping a 64 1/2 and 2 65 coupes in a month or so and I will check what kind of shape the driprails are in...if good I will cut them out in case anyone needs some patches....no promises but I will have a look.

Thats a little beyond what seam sealer can fix
