ok, doing my motor swap, and i screwed up.. not majorly, but i did forget to mark the driveshaft before i dropped it. so is there any easy way i can find where it was or am i gonna have to keep rotating it till there is no more vibration. how bad will the vibration be?

I was under the impression that if your driveshaft is balanced properly it shouldn't matter how it goes up. I have always just put mine back up however and never had a problem. I had a FMS aluminum one though so maybe thats why.

I wouldn't worry about it, I doubt it will vibrate. There's only two ways the rear u-joint can go back in, so if it vibrates more than it used to be, just pull it out, turn it 180*, and put it back in.

If you get vibes, keep rotating it till it's back in phase. Some of the rotating driveline components are loosely balanced at the factory, hence why it's important. The alum DS's have a better intrinsic balance since they obviously don't come on the car, nor loosely balanced to anything else in a dynamic driveline.

You could have a decent driveline shop do a dynamic balance if you desired. The stockers are known for being fairly unbalanced or even bent (excessive run-out).

if you get vibrations just keep rotating it like said above till you get the least amount of vibrations. I had a vibration that was a pita at 70mph+ bought an aluminum ds and my problems went away.

There should be a yellow crayon mark on the Flange and a scribe or paint mark on the Driveshaft.

And the price for a dynamic balance is totally by shop and region (it can be a little expensive if not in good with a shop).

For shadetree balancing type stuff, see some old posts by Don (gt90stang) or try PM'ing him perhaps. Quite some time back, I recall that he did some nice at-home balancing. I *thought* he had pretty good results (he's a real smart fella).

I have never paid attention to the orientation of the DS, when pulling my motor.
I have pulled the motor nearly 10 times now...
No vibration issues.


I thought the vibration came with a rear end gear swap????
