I have an 88 mustang gt 5.0 with 5 speed trans and ac equipped. I have a new 3 post starter relay switch (Echlin). My son in law installed it and I think he may have got the wires installed improperly. The exicter wire from the ignition switch is no problem. I would sure appreciate if someone could tell me the color codes of the wires that hook up on the battery positive side of the starter relay switch and the color of the wires that connect to the starter side of the starter relay switch. Also one of wires is a lead from a silver box can anyone tell me what the silver box is?? I would sure appreciate help on this problem.

See http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=612001 for the answers to your questions. There is even a picture of the starter relay and all the wiring for reference.

Hey I started that thread, but don't go by my pics. my wiring set up is a little different since I have an aftermarket upgrade mini starter.

all the wires go to the post nearest the rear of the car. then the starter cable is the only thing on the post near the front of the car. those pictures are for a mini starter setup which moves the starter cable. wat makes you think it is installed incorrectly?

For a car without a Mini starter, that is the correct arrangment.

If it's an aftermarket solenoid they switch them around sometimes. see which post is marked 12V on the solenoid and all the wires but the starter wire go to it. It may be hooked up backwards, but usually when you hook one of those up backwards the car will keep cranking after you turn the ignition off.
