drivers side headlight dim

i run 80/100w bulbs on stock headlight harnesses.

heres the problem:
in the parking light position both parking lights work fine at normal brightness.
when i turn the headlights on, the passenger side headlight/parking light turn on fine, but both the driver's side headlight/parking light both go very dim, as if there isn't enough power being supplied to the driver's side.
the highbeam works on the right side, the driver's side stay the same (dim).
i think either theres a bad ground or the harness is melted.

any tips?

I agree with your assessment. A bad ground connection that is common to both the headlight and parking light on one side. Is the directional signal on that side also affected when the headlights are on?

i THINK it is working on the drivers side even with the headlights on.
the left blinker on the instrument cluster is lit up because of the dim headlight, but when i turn on the left signal the blinker turns on and off normally.

edit: i forgot to add, when i highbeam with just the parking lights on, the driver's side parking light goes normal->dim and the headlight turns on dim also.

My bet is a bad ground also. I had the same prob on my 82 Mustang. Found the bad connx and fixed it. Cleared it up.

This was posted earlier this year.. and I'm having the same problem now... where should I begin to look for it? It was fine last nite and now this? I've been running the same headlights in my car for 2 years now fine and dandy.. =o\

Check the connection first to see if you have a melted or dirty connector. You should be able to trace the wire back to see where the ground connects to the frame. Someone else pipe in if you know where the light is grounded on the newer cars.

you fried your relay and harness....time for new one. $100-$125 cha-ching
i suggest running something closer to stock wattage but gives greater output. stock is 45/55....

Gee thanks for the optimism.. =oP So after two years with the same bulb it just now fried it? Sounds odd to me... and i'm not running anything brighter.. stock 45/55 bulbs.

don't know could be but you were running regular wattage bulbs so it might be something different. As for the original poster his is more than likely fried. damn, this thread was so long ago..
