driveshafts

I am thinking of getting a solid driveshaft. Which is the better one Fidanza or Lakewood? My car is lowered with roush suspension so would the 3" steel be better for clearance or would the 3 1/2 aluminum sill give me clearance?

I went with the spyder alluminum drive shaft, very happy with it.

I've been shopping for a drive shaft too, and the SpyderShaft sure seems like the right way to go to me.

how low is it? usually lowering from 0 to -1.5" it's fine. if you drop it 2" or more you have to have an adjustable UCA to correct the geometry thrown off by lowering. there's a couple cars at 1.5" that did need to adjust pinion angle but most are fine where they are at.

I will have to get one. Perhaps sometime next year. I don't plan on going crazy with a drop. I am looking at the K springs.
Thanks for the long chat at the track spyder It is a thrill to see a N/A stock block put a hurtin' on most all the S/C cars!

yeah i just need some good weather to put this thing in the 11's
that last run i actually slid the car in the beams a bit too far and it killed some e.t. if i hadn't done that it would have run 12.04 - 12.05 !!
it's great to actually put a face to the screen names. just wish i could remember real names better.

Wow this thing is cheap. The DS's I've seen are like $700 plus.

Doesn't the stocker weigh like 55 lbs? If so then that's a good drop in rotational mass. This may be next on my list.

Well, I did a little research and just ordered the spydershaft.

I still have slp LT's and ford racing 4.10 waiting to be installed. Still waiting on my guy to get around to it, looks like his "to do" list just got longer.

Can't wait to get this stuff on and get it on the dyno.

You can't beat the quality of the SpyderShaft at any price as far as I am concerned and it will work for both manual and Automatic transmitions unlike most of the other aluminum driveshafts out there that only workl on manual transmissions. But what I really like is that it comes with a replacement differential flange and doesn't use any adapters or other "Mickey Mouse" crap.

I'm happy with mine, just my 2 cents worth.... your milage may vary

I went with Carbon Fiber. I am very happy with it. I have had it for almost 2 years with no problems.

I hear ya on the real name business Give me a screen name and/or car and I can pick you out.
I'm trying to keep from pulling the trigger on the DS and get new wheels/tires first...but it will get done by next race season with "The Club"

as soon as they tell me their screen name i know exactly who they are and what car they have usually. we don't use our real names much here online so it's hard to remember them cause i usually only see it when the driveshafts get shipped out and sometimes they are going to someone elses address which really confuses me at times
as far as quality and price goes there will be a price increase in the upcoming weeks but i'm going to try and offset it with discounting the shipping. quality will always be the same or better.

I recently installed Ron's spydershaft and went on track to test it .
It's a very good piece and runs smootly with no issues at all .
On the straight on the Monza raceway I hit 120 mph with no rattles or noises at all , after a couple of slower laps to take it easy

With the lighter driveshaft, whats the first thing you notice? any new noises vibrations?

better acceleration and most of the time smoother gear changes in the manual cars with no clunking. there's always a chance of increasing NVH but thats usually not a problem. ford put that noodle shaft in there to absorb the vibrations and noise they couldn't get rid of and it does a really good job doing what its supposed to do. if there is any issues in the drivetrain they may not even be noticed since the stock shaft hides it very well. one of my customers installed the shaft and had some vibrations. he noticed his wheels were wobbling so he swapped his 20" wheels for the stock ones and the vibration went away. the stock driveshaft masked the poorly machined wheels so well he couldn't feel them wobbling. one piece driveshafts don't hide things.

The further you get from a street car and closer to a race car, the more it will become unforgiving. Just the naure of the beast. I know when I added the O/R H I got more rattles inside the cabin(now the piece around the light switch rattles ), but I love the way I can feel the exhaust rumble beneath my feet. Hell, this ain't no damn Mercury! The comforts belong there, not Ford

I got Spyder Shafted a week or so ago and there is literally no vibration at 120 MPH so far.

What I notice is a more linear feeling acceleration, and a more direct transfer from the gas pedal to the wheels in my Automatic GT.

I'm still waiting on my spydershaft to arrive. How hard is it to install? Is it something I could do myself or should I have it done by a mechanic? I can do basic bolt on stuff like mid pipes,axle backs etc.
