How expensive do you guys think it would be to fix heads with a dropped valve in need of aluminum bowl repair and a plug helicoil. Any ideas of how extensive this is?

The helicoil wouldn't be too expensive, but I'm not sure about repairing the combustion chamber. Got any pics that show the extent of the damage?

I'd suspect you are going to spend alot.
Figure a valve job to be $225 for the set of heads, and that's without repairing any damage.
Then you have the new valve itself, possibly an entire set and the repair work.
Keep in mind too, you don't just take one head to a head shop (i mean you can, but it's not wise to only take one). You take them both, so you can't split the cost in half by only taking one there.

Unless this is a set of high end race heads, i'd say repairing any significant damage won't be cost effective.

Hey, ya I got the 347 probe kit and dropped it off, waiting for the fidanza aluminum flywheel.. just looking for the damper/balancer.... looking for a 28oz.. and talked to jim at f s and he said that most have both 3 and 4 bolt options, but just to go with the 4 bolt and I would be fine.. my only decision regarding the balancer is to go with the sfi one if that is what its called... the race approved one.. looking like the difference is about 100 dollars.. looks like some of the name brand ones jump up by about 200 dollars.. like around 400 with shipping.. I think I can find a quality one cheaper than that! Some are around 99 but are non sfi (think that's what it is) sfi? Anyways.. saw one 18.1 sfi balancer 28 oz for $150, think that is just as good as the 400 dollar name brand sfi one?

just saw a set of tfs heads on ebay.. and the guy said his reserve is 750 think that's kinda steep.. but they are ported and include some extra's but have those problems.. so I honestly would rather play it safe and stick with a new set of tfs twisted wedge heads.. I got the twisted wedge specific pistons.. so that's what I'm stuck with for now.. but I'm happy with my choice... just have some options with ported or not.. think I will have problems with emissions if I make changes to the heads? I am thinking stock tfs twisted wedge heads would be fine, with a custom cam and the r series intake!

I will be happy though when I get the flywheel and balancer dropped off.. do you guys think I should worry about much more with the bottom end.. there are main stud girdles?? necessary or not? and my oil pan is pretty messed.. should I just go with a basic replacement, or should I go with something a bit better.. hard to say... not rich here!

ATI or Ford Motorsport balance (spacer with the FMS too)
Canton pan, windage tray and pickup.
Cheap balancers are usually crap. I know dropping 300 on a balancer sucks, but you want to play, you have to pay.

For a 347 stock wedges will work, but to take full advantage of the 347 CNC'ed wedges would do significantly better.

I'm not real versed on the romacs, so i can't say either way if they are worth the money or not.
I do know that my guys prefer the ATI first.

mustangs unlimited is usually over priced...

i went with a pioneer, which is SFI approved

$229 for an SFI 28oz balancer. no spacer was required with mine
