how much will DR's (nitto 555R's) comprimise my stock 8.8? well, not completely stock, i have FRPP 4.10s with stock differential and axles. I'll probably only make a few passes on them at the track this weekend and then be done for the year. im not making much power, just an x-pipe and cat-back as far as performance mods really.

I just cant hook for **** on my street tires with the new 4.10s, but i dont want to break something in the rear. thanks

Youl be fine...try and keep the launch @ or below 4K and rid the clutch out fast...as in no dumps. If it grabs on a dump, you may break something. Just have to find the point where it spins and where it bogs...inbetween is perfect. Play with RPM until you find it.

Yea, a 255 will work fine on an 8 inch wheel.

The 2K-2.5K thing wont last long lol, if the track isnt greese slick it will bog at anything less than 3K. I experemented W/ 15/275 nitto DRs before and a 3500RPM launch yielded the best 60 ft....but I only got 3 runs in. 2700-3500-3000. I bet 4K would have worked better. But just be flexible with you launch and shift points. I gained over 2MPH by simply changing shiftpoints on my most recient track run after the cams. And switch lanes to see which hooks better.
Let us know how it goes, and good luck.

Don't sweat it. I'm using 26x10.5x15 mt et streets and haven't broken anything yet. I dump the clutch at 3500-4k and hit the nitrous. FUN.

Not to rain on this parade but back a couple of years ago and on only my second pass on Nitto DR’s…launching around 4k I snapped the driver’s side axle. I moved maybe a foot off the starting line….
Just play it safe and don't dump the clutch...

yeah, i understand you cant be too rough with them. im not going to be dropping the clutch or anything. i want good times but not at the expense of my axles. if something breaks, i can afford some 31 splines and an aubirn differential, but i'd rather not go that route.

how much power were you putting down when this happened? what gear ratio? the only performance mods i have is an x-pipe, so im putting down near stock #'s.

Don't sweat it too much helty, there have been people running slicks for years on the stock 8.8.

It's just luck of the draw....

should be here by the end of the week. i'll let you know how my times end up (if they're decent ). still learning to launch w/ the 4.10s. this is the last weekend our track is open so hopefully by the spring i'll have some LT's, LCA's, a built rear and McLeod clutch to get back at it. thanks again

I've made plenty of passes with my stock rear, BFG drag radials, leaving at 3,500 and about a 1.80 flat 60' time. Axles are still fine.. No problems at all and I am pushing almost 500 HP..
