drum brake bar spring?

Where can I find the spring that goes on the drum brake bar;this is the bar that goes between the two shoes and has a spring on one end. Auto Zone and Advance don't carry it and none of the vendors I have checked. It does not come in any of the spring "kits". Is this part really necessary?

It's not in any kit, and I was told it hasn't been made for like 20 years. No longer needed with todays higher tensil springs.

Agree. I was told the same thing.
I just rebuilt/built a rear from scratch and was able to locate EVERY part except for this spring your talking about. Luckily I was able to reuse the spring off an old six-cylinder car.

I doubt you need it, but if you want it, junk yards are full of them!

I don't see the point in reuseing, or trying to find old weak springs.

It was originally used as a "helper" spring. I've been running for years without it like most that have drums. You'll be fine without it.

As stated above, no one makes them that I can find.

Thanks for the help; I didn't think it would ever be needed unless your brake shoes were completely worn.
