Guy I know put one in a 68 manual brake car and he had to do somthing to the booster actuator to get it to hook to the pedal (filpped something on the booster rod around IIRC) but after that it bolted in and hooked up. The car on the other hand was a total POS that was unsafe to drive, gastank fell out on the maiden voyage.

You have to drill holes in the firewall/pedal support for the studs on the back of the Fox Mustang booster to go through. On '65/'66 models, the pedal pin has to be moved. In some cases with '67-up models, you only have to flip the booster's input rod 180-degrees to line up with the booster's input rod.

As you know, our friend MustangSteve recommends reinforcing the firewall and brake bracket by welding a plate to the bracket and to enlarge the existing firewall center hole from 2" to about 2 3/8". He sells the re-enforcement plate and other goodies for this swap.

Yes, that's true. I've never personally used Steve's installation kit, but it seems to be a good kit.

The first time I had installed a Fox booster in an early Mustang was in '96. I put it in a '66 fastback that I had at that time [my old '66 fastback; http://ultrastang.com/Images/Scanned/23-s.jpg ]. The booster I used came from an '80 model Mercury Zephyr donor I found in a wrecking yard --very same booster as used in the '87-'93 2.3L Fox Mustangs. Five years later (in 2001), I finally got my first home computer and access to the internet. A few months later, I came across MS's site, and saw that he had done the very same swap too and was offering a conversion kit for its installation into the Pre-'67 models ('65/'66 only).

In 2002, I adapted a 2.3L Fox booster into my '68, however there was a problem with the booster covering up the hole in the firewall where I intended to mount the JMC hydraulic clutch MC I have. Luckily at the time, I had a '90 Mustang GT parts car that still had the smaller diameter 5.0L Fox booster in it.

Since the 2.3L & 5.0L boosters have the very same mounting stud pattern, all I had to do was swap the 2.3L booster for the 5.0L version. The only thing I did not know at that time was if there would be enough room in front of the (thicker) 5.0L booster for the MC to clear the back of the shock tower. --As it turned out, it worked!

There's two big differences between the '65/'66 Mustangs vs. the '67-'70 models. '65/'66 models pretty much need a reinforcement plate welded to the front of the pedal support for this modification. It's not a bad idea to weld a plate onto the '67-'70 pedal supports, but it's not a must-have on '67-'70 models, since they have an extra panel layer of sheet metal from the factory in the area where the MC mounts.

This is a picture of a template I designed to adapt the 2.3L/5.0L Fox booster into my '68. This is a copy of the same type plate I welded onto my '68's pedal support.

Yes, that's true. I've seen 'Slick Willie's' '67 Vert. It's located in the automobile museum on top of Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton, Arkansas.
