Dual Exhaust..Pipes.

Hey guys sorry for so many questions but I wanna make sure im doing the right thing...

Ok so ive talked to the guy numerous times, and hes saying the best way to go is to cut from the y pipe I believe he said..

The thing right after the catalac converters.. then hes gonna hook up the x-pipe and run duals with flows..

Ok so about doing that, Should I use the aluminum? or stainless steel?
This guy said to go aluminum, cuz it lasts longer and wont rust like stainless still does? is that right?

Stainless steele is the way to go, but aluminized steel will last a long time depending on where you live and when you drive it.

In order to use and X pipe, the stock Y pipe will have to be cut out. Depending on what brand X pipe, the cats may or may not be removed as well.

Catback dual exhausts are just that, the stock Y pipe stays in with the stock cats, and the system bolts right up to the Y pipe with another Y pipe. This pretty much makes an X pipe out of the old and new exhausts.

If you have a V6, you don;t need an X pipe and are wasting time and money installing it due to the firing order of the V6 Mustang. There is no equalization of side to side exhaust pressure required, and in the long run may even hurt your performance.

Your best bet is to have him cut the Y pipe out, leave the cats, use the catback system you may or may not have - or go with something else, and then have the guy fab up some extra piping to complete the connection. Going true duals is the best bet for our cars. That means one complete exhaust pipe running from header to tail pipe for each side, totally seperated from the other.

You can also get a cheap new GT takeoff system that is stainless steel and go that route. They don't sound as mean as some of the V6 specific exhausts out there, but it is an option.

Ok, you have to get rid of the Y pipe
the X pipe is nice because it will equilze the exhaust gas. As far as the firing order and not needing the X pipe im not to sure. I have the X pipe on mine and my car sounds great and runs good, you might lose a little bottom end but you will definetly gain it at top end.
Oh and make sure you stick with 2.25" pipes do not go any bigger

Ok so u live out this way..Im in san diego..So for me to do that, Mida is telling me $1100...That to me seems way to high.. Is it? theyd be cuting from the the end of the cats, were the bolt ons went, then put the Xpipe running from that, then my 2 mufflers (flows) w/tips..
And for Stainless steel there syaing its gonna cost $1100 and if I go alum. it will call $675...So im kinda stumped on that...

Im thinking i rather go for a system, then rims.. Img etting 1200 soon so I can blow it all on True dual, or half on a system and save close to getting rims ;0

OK that is way to high..there bending you over the barrel.

Go buy your flowmasters from the local muffler shop/auto store that carries them. They should cost you roughly 60 to 100 bucks each.

Next go to a good muffler shop and tell them you would like to install duals. you want your Y pipe cut and run the pipes straight back with your mufflers. The labour of cutting the pipe and using piping they have in there shop to custom make it including hangers and such shouldn't be more then $100 bucks. In total mine cost $300, the stock cats are still there and you want them there otherwise the car gets raspier in the higher rpm range.

As far as our cars needing an X or H pipe, we don't need it because our cars fire evenly on both banks, the exhaust pulses do not need to be equalized, and that is the main purpose of the mid pipe. Some do get them and I beleive it does add a bit of HP, although not worth what you pay for them, unless your trying to squeeze every last pony out of your car.

Trust me get two mufflers 2.25" offset inlet and outlet, go to a muffler shop and ask to have the y pipe cut and run duals to the back you will save a ton and have duals. Get some nice tips to get welded on if you want some nice chrome sticking out the back.

id like to get side exhaust. THe best system i have found on this site is the cdc side exhaust system. I have the money to get it but its real expensive and will set me back on time for making my mods after that. If u know of any system with similar quality for cheaper tell me please.

I have an 03 vert. I just got it installed....the best way for the pipes to run is 2" right off your cats, then run a 2.25" x on back to your mufflers. I have 2.5" tails, but thats just what came with my MAC setup. Sounds a little better with the bigger tails WARNING: DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON FLOWMASTERS (i'm about tos tart another thread with this subject)... Their flow is not even equal to the stock GT mufflers, its aluminized steel....just not worth it! The stock GT mufflers are made entierely of stainless steel with a slightly higher flow. I almost bought some flowmasters until I read the specs on 'em.....god i'm glad i didnt!

Ok, everybody likes to think their setup is THE BEST. And on this site, it doesn't seem that flowmaster gets any props, so I've just been sitting idly by watching them get dissed from everyone who doesn't have them. I would just like to say, whoever told you flows don't get the same flow of a stock GT muffler is full of crap. I had an 01 GT and after I put flowmasters on that, I realized a very big throttle difference so I don't know where you are getting your figures. Also, go to almost any muffler shop and ask what exhaust would sound best on a V6 stang and I bet u most would say Flowmasters dualed out. I know my exhaust isn't the ****nit, but, it sounds really good and I don't see why everyone feels the need to hate on the old Flows. FYI, I heard a horrible exhaust system on a 96 3.8 the other day. This dude had a huge exhaust tip out one side running a single Magna Flow. Now, I'm not trying to anyone, but, that sounded exactly like a Honda Civic.

Your right, the flows compared to the stock or GT Takeoffs is probably better flowing. I won't dispute that, but compared to exhaust systems like magnaflow or borla. They will not get the some HP, the straight thru design like magnaflows and borlas are way better performance wise then a chambered muffler like the flows. As far as sound well, that's your personal preference. I've heard magnaflows and borlas and flows, I'll stick with my magnaflows, can't really say what they sound like on a single exhaust but if you heard me coming I highly doubt you would say rice.
