I am trying to figure out the diffs between a h-pipe and a catback system. Are they used in conjunction or 2 separate technologies. Is there a advantage to using cat-back?....I know this is probably something I should know but I dont, and I aint afraid to ask the question that may get me laughed at....

As always insight is appreciated.

Oh and I did search and even googled, but all I got was info about the makers. not an explanation of what it is...

You use them together. The h-pipe is between the headers and the catback

Catback is everything after the h-pipe in kit form (mufflers, flowtubes, tailpipes and clamps). The h-pipe is what has the cats in them, so thats where they get the term catback.

Sometimes cat-backs are more correctly termed 'after-cat systems'. That might make it seem more clear.

Good description JT.

I might describe it like this.

Cat-Back= anything after the catalytic converters on your exhaust. Cats to the back of the car.

True. The "catback" term was owned by Flowmaster at one time. Thats why others were stating after-cat systems.

Not to be confused with a cat-scan or an H-bomb...

And now we apparently have axle-back systems. That sounds like a nice name for a muffler and a tip.
