Dynamat, worth it?

At $70 bucks per 12sq ft. is it worth it? How much do you need for a mustang's floor panels and rear seats?

Dynamat is soooo overrated. Save yourself a ton of money and go to home depot and go to the roofing section. There you will see these rolls sitting on the shelf. They're yellow with green writing. It's just about the same stuff as dynamat. I use it in my car is it works really well. I have it in the rear hatch, under back seat and on both door panels. It's $13 for a 16x6 roll. The stuff sticks real well and doesn't smell at all. Get that stuff instead of dynamat and get the same results.

i will agree that dynamat is over-rated, but what do you expect-

i wouldnt suggest using any roofing materials in your car though. check out Brownbread- just as good as Dynamat but alot cheaper. I'll try and search for the site!

BTW- im guessing around 45sq (+/-) of deadener- remember your adding a descent amount of weight to your car, only down-size to sounds deadening!

Results = Lots less exhaust & tire drone, dont hear the suspension squeaks, and the doors close with a nice thud, not clunk, with the windows up. The stuff I used is FatMat and I bought 100sq feet off Ebay for $100+shipping. I still have some leftover. Its worth it if you do alot of driving, but it'll take a couple days for the smell (kinda tarry) to go away. Adds maybe 50lbs, if that.

I plan on going with e dead the liquid stuff for the floor and trunk and the mat for the doors. I'm curious if a window motor or door lock motor goes out i'm assuming you have to tear off the deadner to replace it?

I disagree, I have been in a lot of cars that use the roofing stuff as opposed to dynamat, and on a hot day, the car just flat out stinks. I mean, the smell of tar-type material is overbearing for a long time. Does the smell ever go away? Maybe, but not to my knowledge. That beign said, yes dynamat is expensive, but you really have to go with the saying, "you get what you pay for." I love my dynamat extreme and my stang is my third car that I have lined with dynamat extreme. If you are using it to take away rattles, just put it on the doors (around speakers) and on the trunk lid. If you are using it to increase sound pressure and eliminate road noise, you should probably dynamat under the carpet, under the rear seat, the whole door, and the whole trunk.

Dynamat is a great product and worth every cent. It is expensive but you will be able to hear your expensive stereo over the drowned out drone of your loud pipes. It will give your car a much more solid feel. I used the heat shield dynamat one the floors and around the firewall. Took a lot of heat away from my leg area. Do it right.

I'm using Dynamat on my doors,trunk,and under mt carpet when I replace my carpet (one of the last things I do to my car) so I can hear my stereo [nothing huge;2 speakers in the back,2 tweeters (small up-front speakers),and 1 8-inch subwoofer where my spare tire went].I don't need something huge.I'll prolly need an amp or 2,and they r going under/behind the back seat.

The markup on actual "Dynamat" is pretty huge....Like was mentioned in a couple earlier posts, there are much cheaper alternatives; Peel n' Seal (the stuff at Home Depot), Brown Bread, Fat Mat, and Raammat, among others, are all essentially the same thing as Dynamat; they just don't have the logo silkscreened all over them.

I've got a few rolls of the Peel n' Seal in my car, and I don't have any issue with it smelling (I'm in Phoenix, so I've got plenty of heat)

is that silicon you have around your door speaker?

not my car, but thats the stock adapter on the mach 460, not silicon, mine has the same thing.

Sometimes you find it under that name, although it might be called something like "gutter repair tape". It can be hard to find sometimes, and I do believe that only certain stores actually carry the stuff. If you don't find it there, you could give Lowe's a try, or Menard's, if you have one around. To be honest with you, it probably won't do you any good to ask anyone at the store, since they probably won't know what you're talking about. Just gotta head to the roofing section and search.

The stuff I found came in two varieties: one was aluminum faced, like Dynamat Extreme, and the other had a white face; either one would work.

Thats just hard plastic that the speaker mounts to and attaches to the door.

The only stuff I saw at Home Depot was called "TITE SEAL." It was in the roofing section and is self-adhesive, comes in rolls too. It has the foil stuff on the inside but the actual tape is very thin. Isn't dynamat thick? This stuff doesn't seem like it'd do much it's so thin (probably 1/16 of an inch thick).

I used B-Quiet Extreme, from the makers of BrownBread. I put down 100 sq ft and it covered the doors, all of the pass compartment, trunk lid, both sides of rear deck, and partway into the trunk. It's 30 lbs. per 100sq ft. I think I paid about $90 for (2) 50 sq ft rolls off of ebay a couple years ago. Good value compared to dynamat. I'm happy with it. I'd like to finish the trunk and perhaps do a second layer on the floor...

It is also thinner than I imagined, like 1/16".
