i was wondering if anyone had a dyno sheet of their car with the PI manifold and one with the full headswap. I'm interested in knowing where and how much on the RPM band i will feel gains. i already feel a definatly SOTP difference with the pi manifold but am curious to hear from those who had the manifold first, then put on the heads and the difference you felt and where.

I don't have PI heads to compare to, but I do have a PI intake and PI cams combo in my NPI headed stang. I put on the PI cams first and recently added the PI intake for improved reliability and better performance and really like the way the car is performing now. The power doesn't fall off like it did pre PI parts.

Here are my estimates as I have yet to get re-dyno'd post PI intake (I do have post PI cams though in sig): I hope this is not ricer math, although my sotp says it is not too far off.

PI intake +15rwhp
PI cams +10rwhp
total 25rwhp

PI heads (non-ported and no LTs or shortys added) includes PI heads, PI intake and PI cams +35-40rwhp

So comparing just the NPI heads with PI intake to the PI heads/cams/intake, you would be seeing a 20-25 rwhp gain. Not bad, but you also have to also factor in the increased compression that adds some of the hp and would require putting in premium gas. I'm anxious to see how my combo fares in the dyno compared to what PI headswap people are seeing.

i put on the pi intake by iutself at first..and it made a really big difference in the way my car ran...but the power just wasnt there at the higher rpm's of third and in fourth gear where yu really need it. when i put on my pi heads and cams later on about a few months later..i didnt notice a difference through first or second gear(probably because i was spinning so bad)...but when i got out on the highway and really opened it up through all the gears u coulddefinately tell that there was some extra power, like i said in third and fourth gear, because 1st and 2nd go by way to fast to really notice. so i would say thta it basically feels the same as just the pi intake alone, until u hit the higher gears..

thanx for the reply. but how did it feel on normal driving? did you notice the extra punch over the just the pi manifold? was there much difference down below? was there much difference up top?

It really opened up my car. Now the power doesn't die off, it goes like crazy all the way to the rev limiter. I haven't had it on the dyno yet, but the full head swap along with the new cam, made it feel waaaayyyyyy faster.

I just finished the PI intake install....and I can definately say it's a different car with the new intake...I can feel it at all RPM's....I really want to get a dyno done soon....just need some money.

Anyone been have any track times Post PI stuff?? not including heads..

yah that will be interesting, i bet you will dyno around 235-240rwhp which is great for not having pi heads. im getting my car dyno tuned in two weeks and ill let you guys know what happens. my dyno is in my sig minus the plenum/tb. after the tune with these parts on i expect to see 265-270rwhp/305-310rwtq.

Great numbers on your headswap! I would be very happy to see low 230s on the dyno. 99+ power in a 96-98 on a limited budget and still on 87 octane gas. I bet the addition of a T/A to increase the timing would do wonders to hp/tq as well, but I'm not ready to pay $2.25/gallon for premium gas as of yet:(

Hey folks...

I have the PI Intake alone with adapter plates and will be getting it tuned and on the Dyno tomorrow night. I'm really excited to see what the intake alone nets. My other mods are in my sig, so let's see how it runs on the dyno with a bump in timing. I'll post numbers either tomorrow night or Thursday.

Good luck and why aren't the PI cams in?

Since I don't have the PI BOLT ON's (have PI Press On) I'm very hesitant to attempt the install. Had I known all this "bolt on press on" stuff before, I would have made a smarter cam purchase. As soon as I find someone to buy these cams I'm going to buy some bolt on cams.

but is there anyone who did the headswap after the pi intake and where did you feel ur difference?
I'm pretty sure I know where you are going with this one Ry. Just get the heads, but get them P&P. I'm sure you'll notice a big differance. I do understand your desire to see numbers though. I want numbers on every mod before I do it to see if it's worth it.

I posted my findings because I didn't think you would get this experience as the PI intake swap is fairly new, and infact the PI headswap was around quite alot longer. To find someone who had a PI intake on then went headswap would be difficult IMO.

Both the PI headswap and PI intake swap really help the upper end of these motors. As far as feel goes that is going to be subjective. Some people feel power differently than others. (back to my previous posted estimates) Just the PI intake is going to give you approx. 15hp additional and a full PI headswap will give 35-40hp. So if you can feel 20-25hp, mostly in the 3k-6krpm range, then it might be heavily worth considering. Don't know too many unsatisfied PI headswappers.
