I am new to the EFI and dyno tuning. Though I have loved my Mustang for years now.

I wan to know if it is worth tuning a mostly stock engine? Will there be noticeable hp or mpg improvements? I know those don't usually go together but a tuned motor should in general use less fuel.

Also what is usually modified during a dyno tune? I thought this stuff from factory was not modifiable.

Anyway just trying to get my head around what is out there and how to go about upgrading.

No. the $400-600 you'll spend on a tune will take year to make back in fuel economy savings....and you won't notice the 3-4 HP you gained

I would if I got an awesome deal. There is a place here in phoenix charging 75 but not for the 400-600 price range.

I would seriously doubt thats any tuning involved.

$75 sounds like a dyno-day 3 pulls type of deal.

But to answer your question, NO.

auto will make 170rwhp, stick about 190.

I looked into it and you're right 75 is for just the dyno, the tuning was 350.

Speaking of tuning, will changing the rear end gears make a different in the tune. I know the gears don't effect horsepower or torque. I want to do a dyno and tune but I am going to change the gears and was wondering what the effect would be.

until you add a blower or do some major modifications to the motor it just is not worth it. Even the gear change will just require a new speedo gear to calibrate the speedometer. I did a tune on my car but with HCI and a blower it is pretty much required. put the money into gofast stuff no sense retuning what the factory did a pretty good job on anyway.

I think if it were free, it would be beneficial as far as how the car would run, but not at all worth the typical tuning price. Hell until you go h/c/i it's really not worth it.

Speaking of tuning mustangs, if you are to get a tune you are better off to go to a MUSTANG dyno. All dynos tunes are not the same.

Or you could get a lap top and a Tweecer RT or Moates Quarterhorse and learn to tune the car yourself. I bought my tweecer used for about 300 bucks and put it on my mostly stock car. I bought it because I am building a fairly stout 306 to go in the car and want to be able to tune the car myself in case i go a different direction for my car. Hell I can keep it if I decide to get a different Mustang.

I have learned to use the program on my mostly stock car. im not sure how much horsepower difference ive made but I was able to change the timing tables, shut egr and smog controls off which turned the engine light off as well as get rid of the tip in retard. The car runs MUCH better especially on the top end. Altering the timing tables made a big difference believe it or not.

Then you will never have to pay for a dyno tune again.
