I'm thinking of replacing my 2 Chamber Flowmasters on my 68 with some Super Turbos, since i'm looking for a different tone. My current set up is 2.5 pipes, to an H-pipe, to 2 Chamber Flows, then dumps. I want the same set up with the new mufflers, except 2.5 pipe all the way back. Any suggestions how my 393 would like the new set up?

i just changed out my flowmaster 40's with the dynomax and i'm really pleased with the tone and performance. i using 2 1/2" all the way from the header to the tips and i've got an x-pipe.

I'm curious too. All I have to compare them to in my 5.0's Flowmasters and x-pipe. I'm looking at getting the Super Turbos with the inlet and outlet on the same end, if anyone can give input on those too..

X-pipes have a very distinct sound thats hard to explain.

I luv my Super Turbos, will never go to Dronemasters again!

Running a DR. Gas X pipe and LT headers off the 289. She's louder but not annoyingly loud.

Agreed on the X verses H Pipe sound differences. Hard to describe but both are neat in their own way, H pipe seems to make the car sound Meaner, more pissed off LOL.

I have MAC long tubes, h-pipe and Dynomax Super Turbos on a 2.5 in exhaust with my 289. They are quiet but not silent and they can be loud when you need them to be. I really like them as it has a distinct sound and is really deep.

With the new turbos, is it quieter than the flowmasters? How do you like the X-pipe?

they are quite a bit quieter than the flowmasters but still give a nice throaty sound.the droning is definitely gone. i can now let the car idle in the garage (door open) and not vibrate the whole house. the x-pipe seems to be working, i do notice a slight power increase.

.

I have those mufflers. Using 2.5" pipe with side exits and an x-pipe. They sound great. No droning at all. Plenty of compliments on the sound. I wouldn't mid if they were a wee bit louder though :D

Anyone know if there is a bolt on kit for the 2.5" pipes and the x-pipe? One shop that does excellent work quoted me $500 without mufflers.

check you summit. if i remember correctly you can piece together a kit from a couple of manufacturers. an x-pipe from one and the exhaust from another, but you'll probably be near $500 when all is said and done.

I dont want to be a hijacker, but what about the Super Turbos with the inlet and outlet on the same end? I was thinking of doing side exits, but dont want to go deaf on the highway nor wish I'd gone louder. My 5.0's Flows and X give me a headache sometimes when the 2000rpm drone hits.

that would probably be a good medium...
i personally dont like side exits as it makes it much louder in the cab; but the super turbos are very managable while cruising

I spent 250 on mine. That was a 3in x, which is a little more. And I had to buy reducers to the get pipes down to 2.5 to go in the muffler. So your price will be a little cheaper if you go with 2.5. You will also had to buy about an extra 4ft of 2.5 straight pipe.
