Hi All,

I'm installing a set of MM LCA's. One of the steps is to remove the e-brake cable so you can modify the e-brake bracket.

I have the E-clip removed, and the instructions say to pull on the cable to detach it from the caliper. I'm using a pair of vice grips and I'm pulling as hard as I can, but the cable doesn't have any slack in it at all.

Thoughts??

Make sure that your e-brake is down. Other than that...I dunno. Removing the e-brake from the caliper on a 2001 Mazda Protege is easy as pie.

Yup, it's down all the way.

When I put the vice grips on the metal part at the end of the cable and pull it doesn't give me any extra cable at all.

Use a pair of bent nose pliers (90* works well) - push the little "clip" part the cable hooks into FORWARDS towards the front of the car with your hand (it will move with some force). Now slip the pliers on the CABLE...NOT the cable end! Next grip, and twist it out.... Do the same thing but in reverse to put them back in - but be patient, it can be a bitch sometimes

Good!!

This is the only way I can see the cable is going to come out. I was trying to do this, but I wanted to check first in case I was breaking something..

Thanks!!

Yeah, just don't pop the spring out, that sucker is so hard to get back in with the caliper still on the car LOL.

Ok, thanks to help from you guys, I managed to get the cable out.. I just pulled real hard and twisted it out of the caliper.. Pain in the ass...

But - now another setback..

I have the passenger's side LCA out, but the driver's side bolts won't come out. I got the nuts off, but it looks like they are seized into the metal sleeve of the bushing and all they do is just spin inside the sleeve. I've tried hammering the bolt, but there isn't enough room to get a good whack at it.

I hit it with some PB blaster and I'll give it a try later, but I thought I would check with you guys to see if anyone had an idea..
