Just reporting what happend on mine Mike....I think part of the problem here is that folks put a cam in, and they have nothing but seat of the pants data with which to judge the change. The E/B's in stockers 'come on the cam' around 3500 and they feel so much better at higher rpms -- I believe it's not because they're so much better than stock; but rather because they're so weak down low that it FEELS really strong once you get out of that rpm range. There are LOTS of guys running from low to high 12's with the stock cam naturally aspirated. There's lots of performance potential to be had with it without sacrificing any bottom end -- and I simply don't think advancing the cam timing on those two cams is gonna reap the kind of rewards we saw when we actually optimized the cam for the results we were trying to achieve.

If you're gonna race it and all you care about is 4000-6000 rpm -- cam it up. But for the street -- take a good hard look at how it behaves from IDLE TO 3000 - that's where most of your time is spent. It's hard to beat the stock cam in that range.

I advanced mine 4 degrees and it helped the bottom end dramatically. Below 2500 rpm's no one's home but 3-5000 it will pin you in the seat and HOLD you there! with 3.55's and modified stock heads. The stock one didn't do that. I need low end and midrange for autocrossing and it delivered! Anyone who installs a cam should check the phasing, it makes all the difference in the world!

Mike... agreed!! with tuning the stock 5.0 WILL run in the 12s!! Tony G, here of HP Performance, has done that... he'll chip and dyno tune.( not just a few runs...but till it is right..) but MOST guys dont realize this and bolt on and cam it up!! which is cool also.. But unless your a carb and mech ign.. you STILL have to tune the computer for opt performance!! I guess this is one of the better things about forums... experiance is all over, not just in home town!! Thanks

Just me........................

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Like I said things are coming together good so I should pick it up this friday!!!

But now I will have to find someone or a shop here in houston to teach me or to do some tuning and work on it once I get some more money saved up. Like thumper said I think it is best to work with what I got and go from there. I'll have to find a shop or learn how to tell what cam it has in it and go from there.

Again
Thanks, Matt
