OK, before you all rag on me for not using the "search" feature, I did
I have a '66 K-code Mustang. It came stock with the small bearing 9", and still has that original rear. I'm putting the rear back in, and have upgraded the axles to Moser 31 spline to match the 31 spline locker I installed. I had new bearings pressed onto the axles. Here's where my problem starts: Test fitting the axles into the rear, the bearings on each axle protrude about .120" out of the ends of the axle tube (past the "flat" on the flange). Left and right protrude about the same amount. I was under the impression that the retainer plate should be able to bolt down flush to the flange on the rear, but with the bearings sticking out like that the retainer plates are sitting off of the flange, and instead resting on the bearings themselves. Napa says I have the correct part # for the application, showing a bearing .844" in width, which is what mine measured at. I unfortunately do not have the old bearings anymore to compare, I trashed them. So, is there a different bearing I'm supposed to have, narrower in width than the ones I got? Or is there something else I'm missing here?
