i just put a performer intake and 600 cfm carb on my 80 lincoln w/ a 351W and AOD trans. the transmission is acting really funny, i think the kickdown rod might be the wrong lenth. (i lenthened it so it has 1/4" gap from all the way open at wide open throttle.) now it doesnt shift into overdrive. are the AODs electronically activated? because the carb that came off had a bunch of electric **** on it.

If it does not go into OD, the TV has too much pressure to allow it. I do not use the factory settings, but prefer something very close to what you did and what Lentech recomends. Just back it off a little till it goes into OD under very light throttle between 45-50 mph. This will give a slight bit higher and firmer shift points, and help to prevent slippage. My car when stock shifted at 40-42 mph. Setting it a little high will extend the trans life. Setting it a little low is a death sentance to the trans.
The 45-50 is based on 3.08-3.27 gears and stock tires. I set my factory this way, and it was working perfect at 190,000 miles when I put the 393 in with a built AOD. My new AOD shifts into OD at 50 MPH with 3.27 gears. You should not use OD in town, so shifting into OD before this is not good anyway.
