I bought a used Eaton Trac Lock Carrier from a guy on a local board. He told me it has about 15,000 miles on it, and was taken to the drag strip a handful of times. He was switching to 31 splines so that’s why I got it, for 125.00. My trac lock has never worked in my car in the 8 years I have owned it. I had my whole rear end gone through when I did gears, but the dip**** mechanic did not put in a rebuild kit when he noticed it was shot. So, last Sunday, I went to this guy’s shop and he put in the Eaton. He compared my old trac lock to the Eaton, and he said that my trac lock had ****ty bearings on it, they were loose as hell. He said the Eaton had nice fresh bearings, and for 15k miles it appeared to be in good shape. He said it was impossible to tell without taking it apart. So he popped it in, and sure enough, I got two black strips of rubber! My ass end kicked out before hooking and then took off. I have never felt this before in my car. Awesome! So I would like to know how durable this unit is. I do not plan on going to the drag strip, as I auto-x my car maybe 3 times per year, so it’s basically just a street car. I do not want to burn it up, but also like to roast the rear tires. Should I take it easy, or can I leave rubber everywhere?
