Very fishy that he made sure not to provide the VIN so someone could verify the car.

Interior looks like of warn for only 8K miles on the car. Also, there is no console plaque. Can't tell from the pictures if those are the ALCON's or not, but the rotors don't look like 13". I can't imagine the top of the line saleen came w/ standard brakes. Also, didn't the 99 S281 and S351's come with the door carpets embroidered saying so? Didn't see that either. If it is legit, it is a nice "rare" car...

I saw that last night. Nice car. I was seriously thinking about it but the interior seem a little weird to me. Like in one picture the base of the drivers seat is screwy and if you look at the pictures the drivers seat seems to be much higher then the passengers, and from the photo, with that weird base it can't go down any. My car has those seats and doesn't look anything like that, or is that just the way they were on earlier years?

It did seem very fishy! The S351 didn't have the interior trim inserts like the S281. I didn't take a detailed look at it, but when they don't offer the vin that should throw up a red flag. Chances are we will see it soon on ebay relisted. Ebay looks at the car ads pretty well and when they see no vin they usually cancel it. That is why it doesn't show up under and search engine on ebay. They guy may have had honest intentions when posting it and just didn't want to post the VIN, but he screwed himself by making his ad suspect. He will probably not get as many bids as he would have if he had presented it completely and openly the first time. If you have to list something twice it usualy brings alot less money the second time. Just my two cents!

OK,

I'll bite.

Scott made some good points as well as a few others who picked the car apart. I think it's just not the guys style to list a vin for some reason or another. I looked at a few of the guys other auctions last night and he had two negative feedbacks. One was for trying to sell a street motorcycle without a title claiming it was a "off road" bike.
If he was really trying to hide everything I think he would have kept Grandpa out of the pics.

First, I'll have to say that this particular car is legit. I'll recap.

The 99-01's did not have the door S281 carpet inserts.
He obviously added the painted door inserts as they were not standard either then, even on an S351. The #16 car matches all of the items it came shipped with. No name in the registry though.
The motor looks complete.
No console plaque I know ( and the shifter boot looked pretty clean) however NOT every car leaves with it. Mistakes happen. My 02 was shipped without it for some squirly reason.
No one, I mean no one will go to the trouble of installing the fuel tank fans to make a clone S351 for 99. Those are the black pipes you saw in the trunk. If anyone wants more info on those just ask.

Overall I agree the auction looked a little fishy and the car did look like it had more than 8,000 miles on it but some people are just losers when it comes to keeping a car like that clean. Another red flag maybe?

If it is legit it will pop up again. Ebay won't let him list that car without a VIN.

Cool. Now someone just need to do a carfax report to see if its a theft recovery or flood car and tell us all the results.

If it is clean, what do you guys think this car is worth?

Oh, sure now that I've purchased another Saleen convertible, this one has to show up for sale.

And it even has enough miles on it to satisfy the poltroons @ CA DMV...

I'm so temped but the wife would shove my cell phone down my throat if I mentioned this car. She threw it at me when we were having a "discussion" about my purchasing the current car. I got a new cell phone out of it though.

Come to think of it, my current cell phone's getting a little beat up.. maybe a new one wouldn't be so bad.
