Ok so i have had this problem for a while now. It all started one day when i was working on my car....my idle was normal, i would start up the car and it would go to warm up at 1200 rpms then drop to 750 or something around there....anyway...so im working one day and i drop a metal socket wrench on the battery and it unluckily for me hits both posotive and negative....i see sparks fly everywhere... anyway....i falls off and i move it out of the way....i check my stereo inside my car and everything works (my subs, etc) then i start the car...and ever since then...now whenever i start the car, the car will turn over..go up to 1200 then drop and almost die...to like 500rpms.....sometimes it DOES even die!!! then will return to the 1200 or where its warming up...and warm up normally....my mechanic told me i could have fried the computer....i was wondering what u guys think?

I'd try cleaning the i.a.c. with carb cleaner if I were you. Theoretically, as long as the car starts, the p.c.m. is fine.-just don't do it again

You may have also messed with the ECU's KAM (Keep Alive Memory). What I would suggest is to follow the steps in this link first.

http://www.muscularmustangs.com/iac.php

Also, before you reset the idle like in that last link, clean and make sure your 10 pin connections are making good contact like in this link..

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/01/tenpin/index.shtml

You can probably skip the idle screw part, and just clean the TB, IAC, and MAF wires, as well as perform the 10 pin cleaning/mod, then perform the idle reset procedure after leaving the battery disconnected for at least a half hour.

Just a couple of other quick tips. Instead of carb and choke cleaner, get something that says it is safe for use in fuel injected vehicles, and won't harm the Teflon coatings in some throttle bodies. I use a product from Prestone myself, called "Air Intake Cleaner".

For the MAF wires, be super careful, use a few qtips and simple rubbing alcohol only.

Good luck and that should get your idle back to how it should be...
