Yes, another combo question. I did a search and didnt really find a good answer. is anyone running this combo? Would I be better off getting a matching cam from edelbrock? thanks in advance
Depends. You didn't specify which Edlebrock heads. I wouldn't say you'd be better off with a matching Edlebrock cam: more like matching TF heads. The cam will work fine with them, but it was profiled for TW's, and they flow better anyway. If you are asking if you should spend another $200 on a different cam, I'd say spend it on different heads instead- that's about how much more TW's are than the equivalent Edlebrocks. Now if you already have them, or if you have RPM heads or something like that, that's a different story. Rest assured it will be fine regardless.

Cam choice is the most misunderstood, complex and most often 'guessed at' component in the engine. They cost more, but I prefer the CompCams Xtreme Energy line of cams. First choice for me would always be to let Buddy or Ed model it for me and design a cam for me -- that gives the best shot at there being no surprises in performance when you crank it up.
Grippper - peak lift has no impact on p to v clearance; rocker ratio has a VERY minimal impact. At peak lift, the pistons are well down the cylinders so there's no clearance issue - just spring rate and bind questions. During overlap - when clearance is tight - the valves are only open around .080", which means the change in rocker ratio only reduces clearance by about 5 thousandths. The question for you is whether the earlier opening intake timing and later closing exhaust timing (more duration) of the stg.1 cam is gonna cause clearance issues with the larger valved E'brock heads and stock pistons. Did you measure clearance when you installed the heads? If not you definitely should measure if you change the cam as you're contemplating.
Michael Yaunt, no i did not measure clearance. its kinda complicated i guess. but it looks like i will have to learn how.i think choosing a cam is the hardest part.i have almost called ed curtis to see if he would grind me one. if i do call him can i just tell him what my setup is or do i have to have all kinds of flow #s and compression#s.he also doesnt except credit cards. (inconvience) do you pay him before you get the cam or after. how much horse power do you think i would gain with one of eds cams.
All the questions you're asking me/us you should direct to Ed (or Buddy - I've got one of his in my car) - I'm sure he'll be glad to answer them. Ed or Buddy will require a lot of info - but most of it he can likely help you come up with if you know the components on your car - he's done one or two of these before.
You definitely should learn how to degree the cam and measure clearance - otherwise you're just hoping it won't have clearance issues; seems like a good way to accidentally bend a bunch of pushrods/valves or knock holes in pistons.
