Edelbrock head steam holes

It turned out

that only the 289 motors needed drilled to match. Apparently 289 blocks have some steam holes that you have to drill the head to match them. The lack of the steam hole in the head will cause a hot spot in that area from poor water circulation and possibly damage it over time.

This issue even stumped the tech line at edelbrock for about a week. I think they had to find some of the old school tech guys to find out.

I will add that if you happen to have a 302 manufactured before 1973, you better look real close at the block for the steam holes, because their was some debate on this subject, and it never really got cleared up. Mine was a 78 block, so once I knew what to look for, it was a non issue for me.
