Im thinking about going all out edlbrock on the top end (external) valve cover, intake, and carb., what would be the best choices to get, and how much will it help my performance?

Main question i have, is there anything negitive about the crome edlebrock valve covers that i can get from autozone?

decide what engine mods you are going to do in the future, and plan now accordingly. if you want an engine that makes say 300 or less hp, then you want a performer intake with a 500 cfm carb. if you want more than 300 but less than 400, you want to upgrade the intake to the performer rpm, and consider getting a 600 cfm carb when the hp level goes above 350hp. for more than 400 hp, you are going to want a victor jr intake, and at least 600 cfm, but no more than 750 cfm carb on a 302 based engine, well not untill you get over the 500hp mark, and then you best have a motorsport or boss 302 block.

First off scrap the carb, you won't perform with an edelbog carb. Buy a holley book for $10 read up and slap one on there. Tune it and you will be good the only people who give holley a bad rep are those who don't understand how to work them. Get yourself a 600cfm those fit perfectly on that engine and give it room to grow. You may be able to live with a 650 if you want, I don't have any first hand experience with a 302 yet so i can't say Im sure someone will chime in. I think 65shelbyclone is running a 650 and it is running fine. Then on the manifold I would not get a performer those things suck and are the same as stock just made of aluminum believe me I used to have one. I would stick a weiand Xcelerator or a performer RPM airgap on there (I would go for the Xcelerator because I prefer single planes and they make more power, but the RPM airgap is supposed to be very close to single planes in hp and make more torque ive read, I don't have any experience with it yet since I haven't fired up my engine yet though). That way you will get the most power and if you decide to upgrade down the road you can without breaking the wallet open for the same parts again. Personally I would scrap the valve covers, the edelbrock ones look bery cheesy and cheap. I really like the factory ford ones on the stangs or I would get some of the tall aluminum cobra ones those look awesome on our cars.

Edelbrock carbs perform just fine. Not as mod friendly as Holleys, but they work just fine.

well im not looking at putting a whole bunch of mods on my car, just stuff like i said above, i was told that the edlebrock setup would help my gas mileage (as long as i keep my foot out of it) and i almost bought a 78 firebird that had the whole setup above and i really liked the look, too bad the owner back out of the deal (almost running 78 pont. firebird, good condition no rust for 800)
