Effects of running NO O2 sensors?

I dont have O2 sensors on my stang due to my longtube headers (they dont have holes drilled in for the sensors). Will not having O2 sensors on my speed density car cuase black smoke to come from the tailpipes? There is big puff of black smoke if I get on it (I can see it in my rearview mirror), and it will continue to smoke until I shut the car off for awhile. If im just doing normal driving, it starts smoking a little when I stop and the longer I drive the car the more smoke comes out when I stop. My engine is basically stock, but when I had another engine in my car (same exhaust), I dont remember it shooting a cloud of black smoke out at WOT and it had an X cam in it.... But I do remember a slight haze of smoke coming from the tailpipes ALL the time.

I'm surprised it runs a all. O2 sensors are mandatory otherwise the computer cannot adjust the A/F mixture based on reading fro the exhaust...which it needs to do. Have some holes drilled and some bungs welded in so you can install the sensors. Its preferable to have them in the collector and not on one single primary, but to do that you may have to lengthen the wires. Remeber to solder, not crimp them.

Yea thats probably whats going on then.... computer is TRYING to adjust the A/F and when I stop its still dumping gas in the engien like Im still at 2k rpms. And at WOT it dumps alot of gas then when I start to drive normal, its still dumping gas in the engine like im at 4k rpms... Makes sense to me, hopefully the exhaust shop wont try to rape me witht he prices.... Can't an exhaust shop do it and any idea on about how much its gonna cost?

Maby on some cars, but I've yet to come across a car that wouldnt run with out the 02 sensor plugged up.

Yeah, an exhaust shoup will probubly charge $10-15 to weld up two O2 sensor bungs.

haha, the brutal Long Island winters got to my exhaust/o2 sensors this past one. My car sat for about two months when I blew my tranny, while I saved up for my TKO 500. When I had the tranny installed, I realized my o2 sensor was absolutely destroyed by rust, as was my o/r H-pipe. My car was stuck in open loop!! When I drove it to the shop (using only 1st, 2nd and 5th, btw ), the car thought it was at WOT ALL THE TIME!!! it was rediculous, talk about fouled plugs and heavy exhaust fumes! It all worked out though, got my prochamber and a new o2 sensor, runs real smooth!

My mass-air car ran fine without the o2's. It got bad gas mileage, but ran fine. In fact, I just had the exhaust redone a few weeks ago and put the o2's back in and now I've got a damn surging idle.

I didnt exactly mean the car woulsnt run at all, I was alluding to the fact that it likely ran like crap. I know mine did.

Dead O2s were masking another problem then.

o2 sensors

ive been runnig my 93 gt vert without o2 sensors for about a year now.......
it runs great, and even get good gas milage... around 22-27..... when i bought it it never had them hooked up. after about 10 mins of running it throughs a check engine light. but nothing changes........ car never blows smoke or inever idles funny.......

maybe im just lucky

Mine runs and performs fine without O2 sensors (Stock engine). Plugs are white and everything. Only thing that really suffers is fuel economy, and its still miles better than a carb.

when there is no input from the lambdas, the puter goes into preprogrammed maps (default). it tends to error on the rich side, but if you have some flow mods already, it is probably not bad.

my O2 cents worth.
