I have a 87 notchback with a carbuerated 5.0 that I would like to convert to EFI. It was originally a 4cyl car that i converted. When i did the swap it was my only car and i had to have it running within a weekend so i went carbed as i knew i wouldnt have any problems getting that setup to work in a day.The motor i put in is was from a wrecked doner car and i have the C3W1 computer, Speed Density harness with the FMS MAF add on plug, intake and most of the other associated parts for the swap. The harness that came with the motor was butchered with cut wires, melted wires and wire nuts. I have an old harness from a speed density GT that i cleaned up for use in this swap. I also have a garage full of misc mustang EFI associated parts so i have all of the parts to do it as it came from the factory. Emissions are not an issue to me at all, my car always passes. I already have the fuel line and pump issues covered. My questions are

1. Is the EGR system necessary for anything other than emissions and cold startup? I blocked off the openings on my heads and would have to pull them to open up those passages.

2. That computer is a auto computer and i have a TKO, will i notice much performance difference there? Is it worth it for me to get an A9L?

3. Will the MAF be able to pick up and adjust for my E303?

4. Are the MAF sensors different from year to year? (it is the only part i need to buy)

5. Are there any other Do's and Dont's that i should watch out for? (IE "make sure all of the vacumn lines are hooked up corretly under the upper)

I have a bunch of stock 87-93 intakes (with all of the stock stuff on them) i was going to use one of them. I had also thought about taking my Vic Jr. to my buddies machine shop and drilling out injector bungs on the runners and fabbing an elbow and using that, but i think that would be more work than its worth.

1.) EGR increases fuel mileage and decreases tendency to ping.

2.) The Auto A9P computer will work fine, no problems no noticeable change in performance that I have seen.

3.) The MAF will work fine with your cam, no problems. Mass air cars will tolerate lots of mods without complaining or having problems if they are properly maintaned and not ghetto rigged.

4.) The MAF sensor may vary slightly from year to year. I am running a 94-95 5.0 Mustang MAF because it is 70 MM compared to the 62 MM MAF in 89-93 cars. It works fine and I have had no problems.

A Tmoss ported lower might be a good thing to consider since you are running a E303 cam. Do a search for Tmoss or PM him for details.

The connector may be different , and the calibration curve too See the chart form Pro-M if it attaches properly...

The EGR system has a vacuum source (line from the intake manifold), a computer operated electrical vacuum regulator, the EGR valve and the passages in the heads and intake manifold that route exhaust gas to the EGR valve. The computer uses RPM, Load. and some other factors to tell the vacuum regulator to pass vacuum to open the EGR valve. The EGR sensor tells the computer how far the EGR valve is open. Then computer adjusts the signal sent to the EGR vacuum regulator to hold, increase or decrease the vacuum.

The EGR shuts off at Wide Open Throttle (WOT), so it has minimal effect on performance. The addition of exhaust gas drops combustion temperature, increases gas mileage and reduces the tendency of the engine to ping.
